Americans are "Fraidy Cats"..

They have surrendered to the fear put out by this Administration. They have bought into the "war on terror" brought about by the attack upon the Pentagon and the WTC. It doesn't matter "why" - only that they are out to kill us. No problem, we will give up some of our freedoms to be safe. We are no longer a free country. Forget about it. Americans, by and large, are chicken shits. It's sad.

Shit Their fucking pants and went home to huddle with their families....and this was Florida for Chrissakes......

I don't remember half so many chicken littles running around when the Soviets had a few thousand nukes aimed at us on a hair trigger. Nor were there so many during WWII.

We didn't used to be this way. Got soft, I suppose.

Of course, we're dumb enough to go ahead and engage in a million far more dangerous activities than the risk of terrorism without worrying about it -- like driving a car (or motorcycle!), smoking cigarettes, etc...

It is chickenshit to do it now.

The Republican party has played the terra, terra, be afraid card for way, too long. This country's reaction baffles me. Are we so timid, and so frightened, that we are going to let the Bush administration get away with seizing our civil liberties, spying on us, waging a phony war which is bankrupting us? It's humiliating. I am in my sixties, have a hard time walking, and I'm not afraid of terrorists.

How many victims of Katrina thought before the storm, that their worst fear was of terrorists? Even the wealthy ones, who saw their homes and jobs destroyed, didn't dream that Mother Nature was more dangerous than terrorist attacks. We get in our cars and drive every day, knowing that people are killed every year in traffic accidents, but we accept it as a fact of modern life, and try to drive safely.

What about our ancestors, the pioneers who traveled from the safety of cities in order to find a better life by traveling west? They left in covered wagons, and carved out lives while facing many dangers. I wonder how many women, living in sod houses in the howling winds and biting cold of midwestern plains, waited in vain for a husband to come home? He could have died trying to shoot game to feed his family, or any number of other reasons. She faced childbirth alone, many times, but kept having children anyway.

Maybe the fear that now grips too many citizens is karmic payback for the terror that we were to the native Americans who were already on this land. I don't know, but I do know that I refuse to live my life whimpering with fear at every shadow I see. It is America's fear that causes us to terrorize others, in another part of the world. If we are not willing to honestly address the reasons they are willing to die for their cause, we will never be able to come up with a solution to living in peace.

no ongoing action that would make this nation safer only less safe...only inaction but for making everyone dump their baby formula in a trash can; continued republican 'use & abuse' of all things terror in their attempts to gain an upper hand...my sense is that people are not chicken shits; they're sick & tired of this phony ass republican war on terror

Americans have been so "entertained to death" (see: Neil Postman) and systematically DUMBED-DOWN by a co-ordinated media onslaught, hosted by RW think tanks, funded by Dominionists and Neo-Cons, that I no longer believe the land of my birth will recover or come to its senses anytime soon.

During most of my life we lived under the very real threat of everything and everyone being incinerated on 15 minutes notice.
That would have meant a solid half billion dead in the first hour with many more to come.
Next to that threat, modern terrorists are punks.
