Akamai Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ: AKAM), headquartered in Cambridge, Massachusetts, is a corporation that provides, among other services, global Internet content caching. The company was founded by a then-MIT graduate student, Daniel Lewin, along with MIT Applied Mathematics professor Tom Leighton. Leighton still serves as Akamai's Chief Scientist. Akamai is a Hawaiian word meaning "intelligent" or "clever." Beyond the name, the company has no ties with Hawaii.

Akamai's customers include American Express, Yahoo!, AOL Radio, Symantec, Match.com, Google, Microsoft, FedEx, BBC News website, the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, Xerox, iVillage, Apple Computer, Music Television (MTV), the United States Geological Survey, the White House, Reuters, Newegg.com, and XM Radio. A list of more customers can be found on <1> Akamai's Website

Arabic news network Al-Jazeera was a customer from March 28, 2003 until April 2, 2003, when Akamai decided to end the brief relationship.

My tin foil is getting painful. Why would they be sending my surfing habits to their servers rather than their client's?

1. details?
packets being sent to Akamai isnt meaningful in and of itself.

Its what is being sent, protocols, ports etc.

The state of spyware scanning and virus scanning is close to an alltime low. At best scanning methods are detecting only about 40% of the nasty stuff out there.

My guess is that you do indeed have some sort of spyware loaded (most people do), and that it may be sending data in the -direction- of Akamai, but where it ends up is another story all together.

3. It was leaving from test.exe out of the temp internet and sys32 files
plus tweaked the reg with a line to start it up with the computer and make it a sys file and "undeleteable."

It's gone now.
