Can we agree that the "terrorists" are the "bad guys" ?
Edited on Thu Aug-10-06 06:56 PM by kentuck
They are killers. They want to kill us, right? They don't like our "freedom", right? Can we agree that we are the "good guys" and they are the "bad guys"? Huh?

(on edit: Can we get a simple "yes" or "no" answer?)

8. No
The bad guys are the corporate profiteers who run both sides of this War on Terror dumbshow.

The terrorists are idealistic dupes and most of the security people are thugs-but-for-a-badge. There's no "we" in my mind, and certainly no "them." Just a lot of misguided people and a few fiendish manipulators of them. Just like in the rest of history. Good guys and bad guys only exist in bad fiction.

10. Terrorists don't grow on trees
If your own country doesn't support your values and you fight against them, then you can be called a terrorist. Civil disobedience can be a form of terrorism. The Weathermen of the 60s were an earlier type of terrorist.

I still don't know why Bin Laden didn't vent his frustrations on his alma mater, Saudi Arabia.

11. What about the guys that support terrorist groups?
They are bad guys too, are they not?

Then why is the pentagon supporting a terrorist group in Iraq?
What is with that?
How can a person reconcile such a thing?

Al Maliki has announced that the MLK group are known terrorists and will be ousted from Iraq by the years end. Problem is that the MLK group is on the Pentagon payroll.

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=102x2447105

snip - Furthermore, the Iraqi Prime Minister's stance could jeopardize a covert operations program reportedly being directed by the Department of Defense against Tehran. The Pentagon is reportedly running the MKO in Iran's oil-rich province of Khuzestan -- which has been the subject of numerous attacks and terrorist bombings over the past year -- and in the opium-smuggling border province of Sistan-Baluchistan, where suspected US/MKO operatives attacked and killed several Iranian officials just this March.

The prime minister's recent comments on the MKO were reiterated by Iraq's Deputy Interior Minister for Security Affairs, Salam al-Zawba'i, who announced a "comprehensive plan, which requires approval of the government to expel the MKO from the country by the year's end."

12. Anyone that targets innocent civilians ...
... is a terrorist.

Those doing such are "evil"

Because one group does it does not nullify the immorality when another group does it.

We need to work to stop terrorism ... whether it occurs by the public policy of a state or small groups of political/religious/idealogical zealots.

Terrorism is always wrong.

14. But if the innocent civilians get killed by collateral damage...
from a bomb, but we didn't target them, then we are not terrorists. Even if we kill more of their innocent civilians than they kill of ours?

19. I don't recall stating anything to that effect ...
I find the tit for tat mentality disgusting (NOT implying you have that mentality).

Targeting areas where innocents will likely be harmed (collateral damage) is the same thing as terrorism.

Let me further clarify my original reply ... I had thought it would be clear from my description, that as I see it the U.S. has engaged in terroristic acts ... ask Afghan villagers that don't even know what a World Trade Center was.

Terrorism is terrorism; I don't think it is ever justified ... slaughter of innocents is not something that I can justify ... whether it's "us" or "them"

15. No
I, myself, am not out there running around killing people. But there are plenty of Americans who do and who get medals and promotions for it. (Medals and bombs and such which are paid for by my tax dollars).

If somebody gave the "terrorists" a medal - would they be good guys then? At any rate - they would be considered good to somebody - unless they are criminals doing their own thing for their own gain.

17. WHITE HOUSE THUGS = TERRORISTS
There is a BIG difference between people fighting for freedom and justice and the types of thugs in the US Government.

It is the White House (along with all its ass-licking toady thugs) that are the TERRORISTS here!!!

THEY are the one who have LIED to us about what happened in the UK yesterday -- trumping up some alleged "threat" in order to TERRORIZE all of us into absolute submission out of fear.

LET'S NEVER FORGET WHO THE REAL TERRORISTS ARE!!!!!

20. Not even close.
The government of the United States has killed, both directly and by proxy, more innocents in the last 40 years than international terror could ever hope to accomplish. We've started unjust wars (Iraq, Panama, Grenada), propped up brutal tinpot dictators of all stripes, supported terrorists of our own (the Contras, expatriate Cubans, Mujahedeed el-Khalq) and been involved in the overthrow of governments we didn't like because there was the whiff of leftist thought in their political ideology.

There's a reason people are pissed at us beyond "people hate our freedoms." One of the big reasons I'm a liberal is not merely because I favor liberal political policies as a practical matter, but because I know what our government does behind the scenes and I want it to stop. I want justice for the people of the world, a justice we often are active in subverting.

21. No you can't get a simple answer
I'm sorry, but life is often like that.

For example, who ARE the terrorists? Who defines that? Is it only those that target civilians? What exactly is a "civilian" anyway? Be careful, it's not just anyone who doesn't wear a uniform. Furthermore, can anyone that does wear a uniform also be considered a terrorist? Why or why not?

Oh and this meme that they hate us for our freedom is just political jargon. It doesn't mean a bloody thing.

23. For all the moral tin
kklanging loud in the highland glens,
all the moral din, as if lord's duty giving blends,
whiskey drunk thar by the thames,
war and blood so many mistakes remend.

Words twisted in the heart of mind and self,
toasted on the spit ironic ethnocentric preservation,
terrrorists deposed from feeling wealth,
roasted fried with grit, bombing alienation.

And we dinosaurs outlived our time,
cockroach survives us all in every nation,
and we all paid for the crime,
bushian wars the death of all relation.
Ancient time waiting absent of concern,
Every bit they touch laid waste, oh that master burn.
