understand the limits of bomb-detecting technology.

THIS is news? I could have told you that. No technology is going to detect everything. I would have said that with 95% certainty, lots of common chemicals which could be very dangerous when combined together, wouldn't have been stopped by airport security.

I'm not a chemist, either.

The recent incident when a cleaning crew left ammonia on an airplane which ended up sickening a number of passengers shows how simple it really is.

I wouldn't be surprised if there's a way to make fairly common ingredients explosive when mixed with urine (and possibly adding some sort of battery as a spark). Next: no urinating on flights.

1. Yeah! My dumb DIL didn't know you shouldn't mix chlorine and amonia!
Damn near knocked herself and the kids out! My son came home, smelled it and said "What in the hell are you doing?"

There really are al lot of stupid people in the world!

2. That's really dangerous. Had she read the label, she would have known.
She (and her kids) should see a doctor and make sure no lung problems develop.

4. That was about 6 years ago. I guess they're all fine.
I'm constantly surprised at how much common info so many people just don't know.

3. They act surprised every time they discover these people are not morons!
So unlike the majority of the people they deal with closely on a daily basis I suppose.
