Hands of the Puppeteer

A simple man in less than simple times
Sees the world careening towards the brink
Helpless as events unfold beyond him
Yet he cannot look away nor can he blink

At odds are hatred between enemies
That goes back as far as the ascent of man
The only difference is who’s hands control
This dance of death, this bloody caravan

And in an instant
It is simple, it is clear
What must be broken are the strings
And the hands of the Puppeteer
Marionettes won’t dance
Nor tremble in their fear
When attached to silent strings
Break the hands of the Puppeteer

And so a simple man, he learns a simple truth
The stage and actors change but not the play
Silence the drumbeat and do not strike up the band
Consign it all to history’s decay
