I Just Want To Say: I am thankful that this attack was stopped. Period.
Edited on Thu Aug-10-06 08:24 PM by phrenzy
My girlfriend was about to board a plane at Heathrow today, almost certainly marked as a target. I will address the political hay-making of this event in a separate area of my mind. Right now, I'm just glad my girl and thousands of other people are still alive. I'm glad that some people are having some success helping to stop terrorism the RIGHT way (thwarting attacks in genesis) rather than the WRONG way (attacking Iraq and creating MORE terrorists than you had to begin with)

2. Most of the passengers seem to think...
This was another plot fabricated by the government to stir people up. At least here in Chicago. With that said, I'm glad nothing happened.

This is a law enforcement matter.

W will go down in shame for invading Iraq and ignoring OBL. In utter shame.

9. I heard they were preparing to make a "dry run" in the next couple of days
and that the actual attack would have come soon after. How they know that, I can't say. I read this on CNN, for what it's worth.

I'm also very glad these people have been caught and stopped. I hope the powers that be are able to learn more from them, and perhaps stop others who are plotting terrorist attacks.

11. phrenzy is telling a little fable
here's cnn--
The men had not bought plane tickets, the officials said, but they were in the process of perusing the Internet to find flights to various cities that had similar departure times.

the girlfriend's flight today, assuming the young lady even exists, was never in any danger -- the bad guys had not purchased any tix yet!

13. Yeahhh, I made her up!
Holy shit - you conspiracy nuts are priceless! I KNOW they had not bought tickets, they were simply preparing for the "dry run" like they do for every operation like this. My point is, she was still close enough to the event for it to have easily fell on her day of departure. United Airlines and California were specifically mentioned in the plans. Why the fuck would i make this up??

Edited on Thu Aug-10-06 08:44 PM by pitohui
downthread, you claim she is flying today

but the news media and uk/usa/pakistani gov't say the men were still planning a dry run

it was never gonna happen today

it is shameful to make an event like this an occasion for attention seeking

23. Hey give the guy a break
one time I was late for work and when I finally left the house I
saw an accident that has just happened........pheww. That was close.
Then this other time a black cat crossed my path and well, I could have suffered fleas, or worse....death.

Then this other time.........

Well anyhow, it's a damn miracle I'm even alive.

30. don't bother to explain
you are not allowed to express fear of terror or the death of a loved one on a possibly targeted flight. there are people here who will fight you every syep of the way....see they believe terrorism doesn't exist or if it does it's committed by the US, great britain, and israel.

they don't believe moslems or arabs are capable of such heinous acts.

5. How do you even know what kind of a terrorist plot they are
talking about. So far I have seen few to no details. I have to wonder if this is another terra group they found like the one in Miami who wouldn't be able to launch an attack on the Sears catalog let alone the Sears tower.

6. I'm also glad the imaginary plan was thwarted
and that your loved ones are okay. It doesn't make this story any more real. I'm not a conspiracy nut, but the time comes where one has to face the truth staring them in their non lying face.

There is no real information being released about this other than 24 people were arrested. Maybe they'll find a saudi's passport in one of the English Pakistani's houses.

It's a crock. Pure and simple. Through and through.

Where's the war in Iraq. The civil war, that is.

What's happening in Lebanon. Besides mass murder, I mean.

Well! We have a terror alert once again with no real information.

Surprise, surprise.

You don't have any facts, but you seem to have a lot of conclusions, Mosey Walker.

That's called a conspiracy theory: conclusions first, facts never.

... Either way, I'll wait for a tad more information. My feeling is that this all went public DUE to the Pakistani arrests, forcing the Brits to move much earlier than they would have wanted to. The Pakis would have leaked quicker than our Mis-administration.

28. either way a girlfriend flying today was never in any danger
Edited on Thu Aug-10-06 09:11 PM by pitohui
jeez, i know a couple pulled off their roof in chalmette who lost EVERYTHING they had, house, all of their animals, their business, their community -- well the whole parish of st. bernard was destroyed -- and they made less fuss about it than this guy who is traumatized that his girlfriend went on an airplane and one day a pakistani or british terrorist MIGHT have gotten on a different airplane at some time in the unknown future

there are drama queens and then there are drama queens

what ever happened to the british qualities of courage and the stiff upper lip?

32. "almost certainly marked as a target" - Was overstating it.
Edited on Thu Aug-10-06 09:29 PM by phrenzy
I realized after reading my original post, that it DID actually come across more 'dramatic' than I wanted it to. I should have simply said "Could have been on one of the planes that would have ultimately been hijacked" But I was pissed at all of the fun-making of the thing in general.

What I was trying to express was this - not trying to get attention - but that, wow, it really hits you when somebody you love, who you were already worried about being over there in the first place, comes into any kind of proximity to a terrorist plot to actually blowing up their plane. She *was* in Heathrow *about* to board a plane when this panic started. I felt helpless.

I'm sure at the time your girlfriend was waiting at Heathrow she was very concerned that she may have been on a doomed flight and you felt the same way.She could not have possibly known at the time that the terrorist act was not meant for today.I'm glad your loved one is safe.Ignore the vileness on this thread aimed at you,it's rude and creepy.

37. Having Been Out of Comms on 9/11
And having my husband freak out because he couldn't reach me, I can certainly sympathize with your plight. I have friends in Germany right now, another friend going to London in a couple of weeks, and I'm getting on a plane to Las Vegas in less than a week. I'm not scared, but I'm certainly concerned. (Truth be told, I'm more concerned that we're going to have to check our laptop, which I was planning on using while on the plane flight...)

Hugs to you and your lady!

38. I agree with you.
A friend of mine recently returned from a three-month stay in the UK. Today another gal in our circle of friends was remarking on how glad she is that K is home now.

I ignore all the terrah talk, because as a somewhat tightly wound overprotective mother I would go completely bonkers otherwise. It is a huge jolt to my nervous system when it occurs to me that something actually might happen and how pathetically unprotected we are in this country.
