Are You Willing to Give Up Freedom For Security?

Jefferson, Franklin, and the Founding Fathers of this nation are rolling in their graves today. And calling out the National Guard to patrol airports and treat Americans like terrorists is unconstitutional to me, and in my mind is just a prelude to the police state to come. If they apprehended the socalled "suspects" why the need for this drastic action? Is it really punishment for Bush's low poll ratings and the fact that the American people are beginning to show their distaste with the Neocon agenda at the ballot box? I stated a couple of years ago that should the American people begin to flex their muscles that it wouldn't be long after that before this country would be under martial law and the boom lowered. I believe the actions of today were a way to get people used to exactly that for daring to question the King.

And yes, I know there are people who hate us, but sorry, there is NO WAY I'm giving up my freedom for security. By doing so THEY WIN. As Franklin stated, those who are willing to do so deserve neither. The terrorists or whoever it is that were or are plotting to attack (if this is even credible) don't really have to. We are doing a great job of terrorizing ourselves, and that is really all that is required for them to be successful.

I never thought I would see the day when my beloved country would be reduced to this, and its people on the whole would acquiesce to it after handing over all of the power invested in them to these usurpers. This is a very dark time in our history, and in reality, it matters not in my mind who wins in November (whatever that means anymore,) as we already passed the point of no return on December 13, 2000 when we ceded our Constitutional authority and rights to this gang of thieves.

Please forgive us, Thomas Jefferson.

"The Party seeks power entirely for its own sake. We are not interested in the good of others; we are interested solely in power. . . . Power is not a means; it is an end . . . not power over things, but over men. . . . In our world there will be no emotions except fear, rage, triumph, and self-abasement. . . . There will be no loyalty, except loyalty toward the Party. There will be no love, except the love of Big Brother. . . . Always, at every moment, there will be the thrill of victory, the sensation of trampling on an enemy who is helpless. If you want a picture of the future, imagine a boot stamping on a human face forever."

Personally I don't even believe anymore stories as they pertain to terror-not one not even this latest London "thwarting". The real terrorists have shown themselves to be our government-and the guiltiest to be those who bray and baaa for them to impose even tighter restrictions on civil liberties. Funny how this news comes at a moment when a Norsefire Party member (See "V") asskiss
finds himself beaten by an unknown who won largely because he stood his ground with a message that encouraged us all to question our government and to protest its illegal and immoral war in Iraq.

I fully believe our own government was behind 9/11 I say it here and now out loud. At best if they were not behind it they were beside themselves with excitement that PNAC got their wish another "Pearl Harbor style attack" (their own words written in 2000) had occurred and finally the spark they needed to forward their rule was lit. That alone to me is just as bad as lighting the fuse itself.

But negatives aside, more and more people are finally coming to their senses about what our government is quickly becoming. Evidence in that comes in light of Lamont's victory over what was claimed to be impossible. We are already the vast majority-even in my hick town here you go to carwashes and see birthday cards that poke fun at bush and make statements that in a fully facist state would be labeled as threatening to our beloved ruler.

The tide turns slow but it is turning. We have been badly damaged by these years of UNAMERICAN rule forced upon us by those who swim in bloodstained wealth, but they are now in full retreat and it is a short matter of time before Karma will surely hand them their asses on a plate complete with carving knives.

They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.

Oh, freedom,
Oh, freedom,
Oh, freedom over me!
And before I'd be a slave
I'd be buried in my grave
And go home to my Lord and be free.

17. Of course not..
... here's the thing. If a terrorist wants to hit us, they will. It is not that hard to do. Any person with half a brain could do it. It is not that hard to do. Only a moron would talk about it on their cellphone, or send emails about it. There are things called codes. When I was in 5th grade at the height of the 60s "secret agent" craze, we all knew how to use codes and cyphers, it's trivial.

The goverment can spend INFINITE money on anti-terror measures, but there is no way at all to stop an intelligent, determined terrorist from striking.

So only a pussie-asshole would be willing to give up any of the liberties our founding fathers fought for in such a doomed effort.

18. the point is, they're not asking, they're telling
i think there are tens of thousands, maybe more, people who would be willing to take the risk of flying with (gasp) passengers who were allowed to carry lipstick and a bottled water

nobody here on the ground is giving our freedoms away, nobody volunteered to give up our bottled waters, the gov'ts of uk and usa have taken them away

i see a lot of large talk here but realistically you got 2 choices, risk serious illness by flying under-hydrated or don't fly -- neither choice, you'll notice, represents any bold stand for freedom, both choices represent a serious reduction of a freedom we had literally just yesterday

and i'm not seeing where there's fuck-all we can do about it

23. We had our chance in 2000
Edited on Thu Aug-10-06 09:16 PM by RestoreGore
That was my point. We gave them the power they are now using to put us under their thumb. They only have the power we are willing to give them. They are overstepping their bounds, and only were able to get to this point by seeing that from stealing the 2000 election to every other step they have taken to slowly wittle away at all of our rights, that they could get away with it because we let them get away with it. And if I was at risk of serious illness by flying without water and had to fly and they took it from me, I would sue them or risk arrest. To simply assume every American is now a terrorist is FASCIST, period, and unless we stand up for our rights, we will lose them all.

20. Security will be ultimately privatized anyway by this
administration,

social security,
gated private security,
blackwell type security
even our national security and I'm broke anyway so I have to go with freedom

We are not afraid to entrust the American people with unpleasant facts,
foreign ideas, alien philosophies, and competitive values.
For a nation that is afraid to let its people judge the truth and falsehood
in an open market is a nation that is afraid of its people. ~John F. Kennedy

If we don't believe in freedom of expression for people we despise,
we don't believe in it at all. ~Noam Chomsky

25. NO, NO, 1000 times NO! Without Freedom, there is no Security!
We need to be secure in our freedoms to make life livable.

And just FYI: IF the GOPranos are stupid enough to mess with the votes this November... there WILL be a Revolution in this Country because, by GOD! I won't sit back and take it. Never again will these neocon bastards infringe on our rights and freedoms... even if I have to do it alone and take them down one by one...

than to have my civil liberties taken away. And die I might, if these fucking assholes have anything to say about it, huh?

Freedom isn't free, but it shouldn't cost us all an arm and a leg to have it.

And the fact is, we're already partway there. Rove and the neocons have already seen to that.
