Congressman Conyers: A Coordinated Attack, By the White House
The British Intelligence service, MI-5, deserves heaps of praise for uncovering the plot to bomb airliners departing from London. What is very disturbing, however, is learning that the White House had planned to profit politically from this event well before the arrests were made public.

What kind of an indictment of the American media that we need to look to a French newspaper to report on the details of the White House plan. From the Agence France-Presse (by way of AmericaBlog:

Weighed down by the unpopular war in Iraq, Bush and his aides have tried to shift the national political debate from that conflict to the broader and more popular global war on terrorism ahead of November 7 congressional elections....

His remarks came a day after the White House orchestrated an exceptionally aggressive campaign to tar opposition Democrats as weak on terrorism, knowing what Democrats didn't: News of the plot could soon break.

We learn more of the White House's plans:

(A) senior White House official said that the British government had not launched its raid until well after Cheney held a highly unusual conference call with reporters to attack the Democrats as weak against terrorism....

And still more indications of the motive at play here:

"Weeks before September 11th, this is going to play big," said another White House official, who also spoke on condition of not being named, adding that some Democratic candidates won't "look as appealing" under the circumstances.

Why can't the Republican party put the safety of American citizens first? Why do Republicans first think of political advantage when our nation is at risk? It's time for leadership that will boldly fight terrorism and bolster our homeland security instead of promoting fear as a political prop.

5. You are the shining light that has been consistent...
... all along. Never straying, never giving in. With Conyers at the helm we CAN expose them and disrupt their goals.

I was proud to have Congressman Conyers speak in my house party via conference call, an amazing man that can really deliver for us all. We should all write and thank him profusely.

He's a good man, he gets it. Softspoken, steadfast and true. Oh yes, I love him.

And I defy anyone who seeks to ridicule his message to combat the facts of it with better ones. He is one very good man of very good character and of such excellent courage in so many matters.

K/R this one all the way.

8. Thank you, cal04 and thank you, Mr. Conyers. How transparently
self serving can MendacityCentral get?

Alarming the whole populace in this irresponsible way when the situation was in hand.

Shame on them. They aren't strong on terrorism, they are terrorism.

9. I've been madder than all hell all day.
I'm happy and eternally grateful to hear these statements coming from at least one high profile Congressional Dem. They will not go lost. I'm going to sleep a little less furious and disgusted at last than when I woke up. I'm glad he stomped all over this within mere hours---- TODAY. Viva la resistance!

11. BushInc is writing entire new texts on governance by lies
The Nazis and Soviets were rank amateurs by comparison and Leo Strauss merely an early advocate of a poorly developed idea.

25. my $10 bet
even though my sister and kids hae been visiting - I'm at a crunch time at work - so I've been going into work for 3-4 hours in the morning (6am-10am)

On wednesday - a co-worker asked me what I thought of the results of the Leiberman-Lamont primary outcome.

I told him that it has the republicans shaking in their boots and not to be surprised if we have a MAJOR TERROR ALERT within the next couple of months.

He pooh-poohed the idea. I bet him $10

on thursday morning, the co-worker sheepishly comes into my office and hands me a $10-bill, and quietly says "you were right"
