"international socialist feminists"
I guess that the new label for anyone concerned about women's rights and health issues.

Wendy Wright (Concerned Women of America) speaking to a small group of women at the Claire Booth Luce group (on CSPAN) in a diatribe about how women don't need no rights. They have essentially too many rights. Some guy tried to figure out the term--wanted to know if there was free-market feminist. She had many tortured labels for feminists, including Marxist feminist. Whatever the label, she pretty much ends up with radical feminist.

2. I've never said this about another woman but she is the first
person I've seen, I would actually slap with the label "Stepford wife." Wide-eyed, perky smile while talking to people like she's telling a kid a story, complete with overexagerrated inflection. Straight from the 1950s via the 5th century.

6. What c*** or feminist?
I'll tell you. I don't get all the hullaballoo about the "c" word. Big fucking deal. I think it's funny to call Barbara Bush and Phyllis Schafly "cunts". Tee hee. And I'm a woman.

Fuck these right wing "submissive wife" bimbos. International socialist feminist, muckraker broad. Whatever. I'm the one who's for giving women the right to work for living wages, health care, abortion, and the right to choose the way they live their lives. And yes, "internationally."

9. It's hard to get excited about it (the c word)
since the Dutch word for rear end (although spelled differently) sounds exactly the same.

8. creepy wasn't she?
the UN as the big bad dangerous wolf ready to interfere with 'our most intimate of relations'

what simple minds

Sometimes I wish "our side" wasn't so easy to lampoon. That whole "his-tory" vs 'herstory' for example was probably a lighthearted joke, taken out of context, when I would hope the UN women's issues would focus on basic rights, and stopping practices like genital mutilation and bride-burning.

Socialist International. Not all feminists are necessarily socialists, however, and I wouldn't necessarily call somebody who says women have "too much" rights a feminist either.

12. I hereby revoke the right of CWA and Wendy Wright to ever speak in
public again. They will only be allowed to speak in their own homes under the supervision and permission of an adult male.

17. Don't forget their credit cards since women shouldn't be allowed
to enter into contracts, and their diplomas since girls don't need education beyond the 4th or 5th grade, and grab their BC pills and IUDs, 'cuz "ladies" sure as heck aren't supposed to know about sex much less birth control. They'd better also turn in their pants and shorts as "ladies" wear only dresses. I hope they haven't cut their hair; another social no-no. I wonder how far back in history they'd like to take us?

13. Concerned Women For America was formed to fight the Equal Rights Amendment
By Beverly Lahaye, wife of Tim ("Left Behind") Lahaye. They are long-standing stalwarts of the Religious Right.

14. You rang?
I resemble that remark, er, label.

Though, as I advocate going to, and sometimes ripping out by, the roots of an issue, I might be more accurately called a radical* feminist.

*rad·i·cal adj. 1. Arising from or going to a root or source; basic: proposed a radical solution to the problem.

"radical socialist" when we talked about politics. She is just as radical as I am.

16. One of my favorite things to do when being labeled
radical or militant or feminist or whatever, is to repond, "Yeah, and?"

Amazing how many people don't know what to do when I acknowledge the fact rather than "taking insult" and going on the defensive.

"Deer in the headlights" is a good description for the look I get.

:D
