My Fun Liberal Surprise this Morning
I'm away from NJ, having been visiting my family in a small town in Nebraska. Needless to say, this place is a red state and I've had numerous experiences during my time here, from hearing the repuke candidate Pickett say in an ad that the "liberal Kennedy Democrats must be stopped!" (LOL, referring to DINO Nelson) :puke: to actually hearing a republican here say that they thought we were in Iraq because we were fighting for their freedom.

My brother's I'net crashed, so no service. But what a nice surprise when I logged on to the computers in the library this a.m. The menu bar reflected patron visits to such liberal sites as mydd.com, buzzflash, and liberaloasis.com. Huffington Post, also.

Makes you wonder what's going on in smalltown rural America, heh.

1. Young people like prisoners
seeking information and ideas they can't find at home. Dumbass bush supporters in Nebraska really know what freedom is to a Muslim in Iraq. Fucking dumbasses. Give me a Kennedy democrat any day.

2. Well, you were in the library. The assumption being that people
that go to the library can read with some level of literacy. Therefore - they have a better chance of having some awareness of the world beyond their town.

3. Congress recently passed a bill which will limit rural library patron's
internet experience. Billed as protecting kids from online predators, what it does is require more stringent filters on public use computers in libraries in smaller communities.

A device called e-rate allowed small libraries to run their internet access through their phone servers to save money. It also saved them from a lot of filters mandated for other libraries.

Soon, access to sites with 'questionable content' will be denied. Also, chat rooms and many message boards.

Anybody have an idea what all might be considered 'questionable'? :sarcasm:

Seems the neocons are starting to understand the power of the Internets and the fact that the truth is sifting into little corners of America they thought they had blinded.
