15. No, Mike was not a game show host.
Mike began "The Mike Douglas Show" here in Cleveland, Ohio. It was a daily variety show or today would be called a talk show.

Legendary Talk Show Host Mike Douglas Dies
TV Personality Dies On 81st Birthday

    POSTED: 1:00 pm EDT August 11, 2006
    UPDATED: 1:32 pm EDT August 11, 2006

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. -- Mike Douglas, who drew on his affable personality and singing talent during 21 years as host of a syndicated television talk show, died Friday on his 81st birthday.

Douglas died at 5:30 a.m. in a Palm Beach Gardens hospital in West Palm Beach, said his wife, Genevieve Douglas. She wasn't sure of the cause, but said he had been admitted Thursday.

The afternoon talk show, which aired from 1961 to 1982, featured Douglas' ballad and big-band singing style, other musicians, comedians, political personalities and sports figures.

His guests ranged from such athletes as boxing great Muhammad Ali and pre-school age golfer Tiger Woods, legendary director Alfred Hitchcock, acting great Bette Davis, author Truman Capote, comedian Andy Kaufman and then-unknown comedians-turned-talk show hosts David Letterman and Jay Leno.

Other Douglas guests included former Beatle John Lennon and Yoko Ono -- who also guest-hosted the show.

His interviews included seven men who were then, had been or would become president.

In all, Douglas did about 6,000 syndicated shows, most of them 90 minutes long. It is estimated that at its peak the show was seen in about 230 cities.
