Propaganda headline: "Travelers Comforted By Safety Measures"
This is just so obvious...smiling while she throws her eye drops away.

DAVID MILLS/THE LEDGER
Bowing to new security rules, Mary Freeze of Manassas, Va., tosses eye drops into the trash before boarding a flight at Orlando International Airport on Thursday. Not everyone was aware that liquids and gels can still be packed inside checked luggage

Travelers Comforted By Safety Measures

ORLANDO -- For Mary Freeze, Thursday was an expensive game of airport basketball. Shooting from behind a table, she tossed sunscreen, moisturizer and toothpaste into a garbage can.

With each disapproving nod from Orlando International Airport personnel, Freeze made another 3-pointer into the big gray basket.

"You know, it does make your carry-on lighter," Freeze joked as she neared the end of dumping about $100 in toiletries.

Freeze, a legal secretary from Virginia who was headed to Washington Dulles International Airport, made the most of the latest inconvenience that bans liquids and gels from plane cabins.

Despite longer lines and delays, many travelers found the increased security ordered Thursday to be comforting after the announcement that the British had foiled a terrorist plot.

Let's see how long they feel comforted, how long before they begin to realize things are so overboard that it is ridiculous.

18. This guy decided to drink his bubbly - pic

Drink it or dump it, Anton Gerasimov was told before boarding his flight to Russia at San Francisco International, and obviously he's not one to waste a perfectly good bottle of bubbly. U.S. airports banned carry-on liquids and gels in the wake of Britain's thwarted air terror plot.

5. How about "Drug stores bouyed by safety measures"
All that thrown out sunscreen and eye drop liquid has to be purchased again.

And why don't they try recycling some of it if it is unopened.

6. "Most important thing is being safe"... becoming a mantra.
"As Degrave started fielding questions at 7 a.m., Gregory Nesmith was trying to leave New York for Orlando with his 12year-old son. Nesmith said fellow passengers were warned of the new rule. But people apparently ignored the announcements and lines backed up when they found they couldn't board with the banned items.

"A lot of women with bottles and pocketbooks," Nesmith said of the New York scene. "One wanted to put lotion on before getting on the plane."

Nesmith, who has been in the military and is the head of security for an apartment complex in Brooklyn, said authorities did the right thing by ordering things like suntan lotion and beverages off airplane cabins.

"I almost decided to go home, but he wanted to go to Disney World," Nesmith said, pointing to his son, Jordan Nesmith. "As long as we're safe, that's what counts."

Mr. Nesmith, soon Americans may just start thinking there is more to this than being safe. This might have been a turning point in ridiculousness.

10. This is all such horseshit. Was she planning to blow up the plane?
Edited on Fri Aug-11-06 03:55 PM by mnhtnbb
If not, then why would she willingly give up her stuff? Let's see, the logic is take everything possible away from everyone so that out of the millions
of people flying every day, there's no chance that one or two or ten might slip through and successfully mix a bomb on board an airliner?

I still say, if the cockpit doors had been secured, as recommended years previously (like El-Al planes), 9/11 would have never happened. The WTC towers went down (and Flight 93/Pentagon hit) because the goddamn airlines didn't want to spend the money
to secure their cockpit doors. Now, all the drugstores are going to profit
on new sales of replacement products because, why? We're afraid to target search people who are probably already under surveillance when they fly? Bullshit.

If the liquids are dangerous and can't be detected, then they're going to slip through in checked baggage. Who says they can't be detonated from the cargo hold?

This is all horseshit designed to make the sheeple think Bushco are protecting them.

13. Damn! Just when I perfected going carry-on only...
I even went to Europe for 8 days last year with only carry-on luggage so I could avoid the annoying wait at the other end, wrestling for a place on the luggage carousel, the possible loss/damage of my stuff. Now this. :grr:

20. I went the other way
I never bother with carry-on anymore - just my wallet, a book, and gate pass. I usually wear a tweed jacket and tie, as well. I just want to minimize the searching hassles, but you get extra luggage carousel hassles in exchange.

15. This headline makes more sense: "Airline shares sink"

Airline Shares Sink After Terror Alert
Shares in airline and travel companies drop sharply after terrorist alert

"Shares of airlines and travel companies dropped sharply Thursday after British authorities reported they thwarted a terrorist plot to blow up several aircraft in flight between the United States and Britain.

As heightened security measures caused long delays and canceled flights at airports around Europe and the United States, experts said the alert could be a severe blow to both industries."

21. Same article, different headline, same paper. Yep, propaganda headline.
I don't know if this is sad or funny or both. Mary Freeze again, but the headline is so different.

Florida Airport Procedures Frustrate Passengers

"ORLANDO -- Airport lines stretched longer, security was increased and frustrated passengers across Florida emptied carryon bags of everything from lipstick to toothpaste as the U.S. issued a threat alert in response to what authorities called a thwarted terrorist attack.

Many passengers here were caught off guard by problems at airports, as news broke early Thursday that British authorities arrested 21 people in a plot they said could have resulted in an unimaginable mass murder.

For Mary Freeze, Thursday was an expensive game of airport basketball at Orlando International Airport. Shooting from behind a banquet table lined with a multilingual list of items now banned from carry-on luggage, Freeze tossed sunscreen, eye drops and toothpaste into a garbage can.

With each disapproving nod from airport security, Freeze made another 3-pointer into the big gray basket.

``You know, it does make your carry-on lighter,'' she said."

23. It's not a comfort thing for me - it's more of a convenience thing.
I was talking to a fellow worker yesterday - if everyone has to check their bags now - it should require much less time loading and unloading the plane.

We're trying to find the bright side in this.
