From "born & bred Brits" to "radical fundamentalists"
Countries who "welcome"/"allow"/"encourage" immigration from former colonies or from the developing world had better start setting some policies in place to deal with the children of the eager immigrants who willingly flood into their countries looking for work ...."jobs that (insert country name here) won't do"..

I watched a documentary just yesterday about how Quebec handles immigration. Of course they have an ulterior motive, since they still want to break away and are relying on the new immigrants to help their cause....but I digress..

They PAY people $200 a week to learn French and to immerse the newcomers into French-Canadian culture. They literally envelop the new people with care and concern and one can only assume that once the new people have gone through the welcoming procedures, they feel like true Quebeccers (sp)...

The US & UK and probably most other european countries with "immigrant problems" have take a long look at how the newcomers assimilate (or don't) once they arrive.

It's a given that most of these people will be poor and non-english speaking. (or marginally english-speaking). Even though they arrive with high hopes for a better future, it cannot take long before they realize that they spent their life savings to get to a country that considers them 2nd, 3rd or 4th class "citizens"...or very likely as NON-citizens ..

Children are very perceptive, and they see how their parents are looked down upon, and as all teenagers rebel, it's got to be doubly difficult for these kids. They may find themselves not respecting their parent, having been raised in a permissive society around them, but at the same time feeling a "pull" towards the society of their parents' homeland (one they may have only seen on visits).. Teens always long for the easy fix..the short term solution.

Disaffected teens with time on their hands (few decent jobs for them) are ripe for the picking, and the radicals at mosques know this.

We see something similar in my own town. For years we were a sleepy little place, too far from LA to really be a bedroom community, but as housing priced escalated, more and more people moved out here. Lots of people who "wanted a better life for their kids", sold that cracker-box house in LA for BIG bucks, and bought beautiful new homes for half that out here ...one of the main reasons they gave.."to get their kids away from the gangs"..

Guess what?

It was too late... their kids were already into gangs and when they moved, we got "pre-made" gangs..

Kids rarely share the "bad things" they are into with their parents, and parents all over the world are working harder than ever before just to stay in place, so kids all over the globe are raising themselves a lot of the time.

Unscrupulous people, no matter their religious affiliation, know this.

Governments all over ignore the youth of their country (especially 1st generation youth) at their (and our) peril...

1. America is much better, imo....

...at integrating immigrants. Go to Hamburg, Germany and see the Turkish slums. We have our own problems, but I don't think the same dynamics are at play in America.

2. I think it is worse in europe, but we have some of it here too
we are "lucky" in that our immigrants seem to really want to become americans, and except for a few loud crackpots, most people here want them to as well..
