Christo-fascism?? wouldn't that be correct also
Edited on Fri Aug-11-06 04:31 PM by SoCalDem
If we can call the radical right warmongers of islam, "islamofascists", then why not call Robertson et al Christo-fascists?

Time to take the gloves off... We have generously called them evangelical, fundamentalist, born again.. etc..

but in reality, the armageddonistic, rapturist war mongers of the protestant faith are every bit as "fascistic" as any ole Islamo-fascist :)

This is apparently a war between our fascists and their fascists.. pure and simple..

2. Neither is right but..

christo-fascism may be more true in the case of mega-churches, fundy tv networks
and all the pyramid schemes of their "preachers" and their swelling offshore bank accounts.

Republicans are pretty ignorant people...
and there's no connection between fascism and islam whatsoever.

3. No, it is a war between theocratic factions
Combine a religion, any religion, with totalitarian rule based on said religion and you get theocracy.

And sadly enough, it seems that many religions, or their followers, have an innate need to wipe out other religions. Pitiful, truly pitiful.

7. Given the evangelical connections tro the corporate power base
it would be very appropriate; much more so than Islamo-fascist

8. Because if we keep upping the ante on namecalling, it gains us nothing
Secondly, it's offensive to nearly all Christians--the majority of whom can be won to the progressive side by intelligently and respectfully pointing out just how much the Democratic program aligns with the teachings of Jesus.

Don't get me wrong, your word smithing in the OP demonstrates some real talent at hurling nasty names. But rather than attacking with verbal hand grenades that drive away moderate Christians and reinforce the image of liberals as shrill ranters, I suggest using a rhetorical scalpel that divides our opponents and exposes their ideological diseases.

One reason so many people don't get involved in politics is because they dislike the nasty tone opponents often take. If we want to animate the apolitical middle (where most of the dormant votes lie) I think, again, showing a little bit more class than just concocting new insults for people will do us far more good.

9. I've seen the term used here before.
I'm pretty sure that I've used it myself, actually. I certainly think that the shoe fits.:)
