"still the man hears what he wants to hear & disregards the rest" ...
...Paul Simon

Men in general are quick to believe that which they wish to be true.

...Julius Caesar

Two people can see or hear the same thing or event and come to different conclusions, often without objectivity or investigation, we all do it.

Yesterday's big story about the thwarted terror plot is already much different two days later than the original breathless story. Holes are appearing in the plot, but that's common with the t.v. news cycles. Many people seemed automatically ready to assume it was genuine, while others wanted to wait a few days for all the details to emerge, and others assumed it was a totally fabricated propaganda stunt.

We want to believe that our government has our best interests in mind and wouldn't lie to us or steal from us.

We want to believe that our soldiers are not dying in vain. We want to believe that this war can be won honorably and soon. We want to believe that terrorists hate us for no reason at all.

Millions still believe in the Warren Report on the JFK murder. They can't or won't see any other possibility of a government conspiracy all these years later.

2. The longer I live...
the more I believe the conspiracy theories. Grandpa always said 'Believe half of what you see and none of what you read'.
