Bush gets 55 pct approval on security: poll
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Fifty-five percent of Americans approve of President George W. Bush's handling of homeland security, an 11 percent jump from May, according to a Newsweek poll released on Saturday.

The poll was taken Thursday and Friday, after British authorities foiled a plot to use chemical bombs to bring down as many as 10 airliners flying from Britain to the United States.

Fifty-four percent of respondents said they would oppose a ban on all carry-on baggage on commercial flights, the poll said.

Taken three months ahead of congressional elections, the survey found 44 percent of respondents said Republicans would do a better job handling terrorism, compared with 39 percent who preferred Democrats.

Rove knew to go after Kerry's Vietnam service because it was a strong point. Terrorism is exactly where we should hit Bush. Did not the greatest terrorist attack in US history occur on his watch?

7. It would be a slippery slope
He would say the wire tapping, gitmo prisoners, intelligence gathered in Iraq, etc... were all instrumental in foiling this plot, and these are things the democrats opposed. If he did things the way democrats say they should be done, the terra plot would have been a success. He and his media monster are the ultimate spin Meisters, they would spin it in their favor. They have been at this for 6 years, and have it down to a science.

4. Ugh
Ugh

We need to broadcast the message that Iraq is doing nothing but making life worse for Iraqis and at the same time creating more terrorists, while reminding the public that Geo let the real terrorists escape to Pakistan.

besides the real story of that poll is Bush's overall approval--38%--not much of a bounce from the "terra" alert.
