My periodic Al Gore support thread...
Ordered my bumper sticker and my button. Talking to local Dems. Sent another email to Gore support sites.

Just carrying seeds.

The wife absolutely LOVES the idea. She wants me to find an old Gore for President sign and stick it on the lawn. I'd prefer a "Re-Elect President Gore" sign. If you see one out there, let me know.

1. Some folks think Al's not going to run. I think he's interested in
the job, definitely, but needs a way in.

A brokered convention would do it. So might a Draft Gore movement.

It's going to be a damned interesting primary season.

4. Brokered conventions don't happen anymore
Edited on Mon Aug-14-06 11:31 AM by RestoreGore
Which our PAC found out in 2004 when we continued to work for one after Draft Gore folded. We also found out how apathethic the system really is to "peoples" movements, and that is also why I believe Al Gore has stated many times that this political system is toxic, which is why he is trying so hard to start a grassroots movement out here for our planet. Al Gore even stated on Larry King that such things as brokered conventions do not happen anymore. The corporate/ military complex will be sure not to allow it.

13. The parties don't care for brokered conventions, but they remain
a statistical possibility.

This could be perceived as a more fluid year (08) than the previous two national elections.

The field is wide open, in fact, and there are a lot of heavy hitters on both sides.

I agree with you that the trend is against it but the circumstances sometimes line up against trends. I think of George McGovern's drive to the nomination, for instance. Not predicted and not welcome by party bosses.

Odd things are afoot in politics, and occasionally, they rise unbidden to the headlines.

I think Gore could win a primary nomination process, but he's a hell of a creative man, and I'm not counting him out of any set of circumstances.

2. I wish I could find an unused Clinton/Gore bumper sticker,
just for nostalgia's sake.

I would love to have a Gore sign too. It would make for a nice drafting campaign if people would put signs up supporting him. Maybe if he ever takes a trip through the country and sees lots of signs up for him, he'll change his mind and run again for us. :)

7. He already stated he isn't a good "politician"
And I agree. "Politicians" are in it for themselves. He is a public servant, a statesman, a visionary, and a peoples' advocate... and too damn good in my view to go back to the snake pit that is Washington DC.

8. Exactly, we need many more Gore types working outside the system
to make real contributions. We have a surplus of politiwhores and wannabes (some right here on DU), let the people with the vision and means work for the public welfare directly, where it will make the difference now.

14. Saw "An Inconvenient Truth" last week--
kind of amazing that it even came here, out in West Bunghole Wisconsin. Gore was great, smart and human and passionate. I'd vote/contribut/volunteer for him in a heartbeat. Run Al, run!
