Were you moved by Spike Lee's piece?
Want to help displaced folks across the country?

Check this out: www.socialchangecaravan.org/index.html

"Social Change Caravan to New Orleans is a Seattle based organization made up of community members
and activists who are interested in helping displaced Katrina families return to New Orleans—to visit
their communities, to look for kinfolk, or to move home and rebuild their lives.
Social Change Caravan to New Orleans will provide bus transportation and
accommodations (food and shelter), at no cost to Katrina survivors.

We will arrive in late August 2006 in New Orleans, where there are plans to commemorate
the one-year anniversary of the disaster and to celebrate the return of survivors who were displaced a year ago.

We are trying to connect with Hurricane Katrina survivors in the state of Washington,
who would be interested in returning to New Orleans, either to visit or to stay.
We estimate that we will be able to take up to 60 people on August 23rd."

Please don't hijack this thread. Not enough DUers are aware of this yet.
If you can help with a donation or participation, get in touch with the folks at the website.
We can be the change we wish to see.
More to come. Thank you for caring.

4. I've never been moved by his piece
but I think he did a great job with katrina. I also think he made the point very well, that the poor response and treatment of the victims had more to do with class than race. What a shameful time for government in general. The gov saying the military won't be afraid to shoot.Brownie saying he was unaware of the conditions on day five. Rover and bush out living the high life. Our government treated it's own citizens like criminals, and let them down when they needed them the most. How can we move supplies to Malaysia in less than 48 hours, and it take a week to get a bottle of water in our own yard? I forgot just how piss poor the treatment and response was. HBO should show this daily until November.

I didn't see the piece, but I read about this a few days ago and am all for it.

Do you know if they are offering rides to people that want to go to a relief camp to help volunteer long-term?

ON EDIT: THE LIMIT IS NOT 60. THE GREATER THE RESPONSE, THE BETTER THE RELIEF. COME ON DOWN!!!!

This will grow just like last year's groundswell around Camp Casey.
It will continue to grow along the way. Contact the email addy on the site.

Let's show them what DU can do.
And thanks!
