San Francisco Zoo Horse Named "Coulter"... !
While looking for celebrity eagle Stephen Jr. in the children's area at the San Francisco Zoo, a colleague at the Chronicle ran into a different conservative icon: "Coulter," an American cream draft horse who bears a not-so-subtle resemblance to a certain controversial conservative pundit by the same name.

A follow-up visit shows that the similarities are plentiful: Both have a long mane of blonde hair and legs that are thin enough to comfortably slip a LiveStrong silicone bracelet on the lower thigh. And whether it's fair or not, many a liberal blogger has pointed out that Ann Coulter's head does have some equine qualities.

1. Isn't a coulter a term that has something to do with plowing?
I thought it was a piece of a plow, which led me to believe her ancestors were plowmen.

2. Well, HALF of the horse was named Coulter.

3. A "different" conservative icon?
While looking for celebrity eagle Stephen Jr.

That'd be Stephen Colbert Jr., you nimrod! He's about as much of a conservative icon as Ned Lamont. :dunce:

5. It's a part of a plow -- and he's a draft horse
It's the little blade thingy in front of the actual plow that "prepares" the soil for the plow by making a cut in the dirt. They tend to break.

Or so I learned many moons ago.

9. Yep. The coulter precedes the plowshare.
The coulter cuts the turf. The plowshare slices deep into the soil and the mouldboard turns the soil over. The coulter is often a metal disc, called a "yeoman's coulter.".

6. The un-named snakes at the zoo are breathing a collective sigh of
relief tonight...even though it would be apropos to name her after one of them!

The jackasses at the donkey exhibit are also resting easy, I'm pretty sure. :)

11. Could it be an ass named Coulter instead of a horse?
Sometimes people tend to mix up the two animals.

12. Well.... both of them have been ridden quite a bit.
The human one always looks like she was "rode hard and put away wet".
