WH still will not approve stem cell research
More proof that they are trying to prevent the cures, not find them. It is Smirky's belief that a cure would be bad for bidnez, therefore Smirky will put a stop to it.

White House Falsely Claims New Stem Cell Study ‘Has Not Been Reviewed By Scientists and Bio-Ethicists Yet’

http://thinkprogress.org/2006/08/24/white-house-falsely-claims-new-stem-cell-study-has-not-been-reviewed-by-scientists-and-bio-ethicists-yet/

Today, a new study was published that shows embryonic stem cells lines can be created without the destruction of human embryos. Previously, the White House has said they oppose the creation of new stem cell lines because it involved the destruction of embryos.

In today’s New York Times, White House spokeswoman Emily Lawrimore said “Any use of human embryos for research purposes raises serious ethical questions. This technique does not resolve those concerns.” This afternoon, the White House changed their story. Here’s Deputy Press Secretary Dana Perino:

PERINO: …This study today reported in Nature Magazine has not been reviewed by scientists and bio-ethicists yet, but it is one that the President believes deserves a good look. He is encouraged that there are scientists who are continuing to look for innovative ways to do stem cell research that would not involve the destruction of embryos. And so he is going to listen to folks after they have a chance to review the study, but it does hold some promise that they would be able to do that type of research without destruction of a human embryo.

This is false. ThinkProgress spoke with bioethicist Ronald Green, who is an ethics advisor to Robert Lanza, an author of the study. Green said that in order to be published in Nature, the paper went through a rigourous peer review process, which lasted nearly three months.

1. Lets see Replugs cut Brain Injury research by 50%
Now Dubba show how he cares about veterans. By not being able to use stem cell research he gives a death sentence to veterans who suffer from Agent Orange related problems

2. I don't see them making a fuss....
about in vitro fertilization. I know a lot of fundamentalists are against it, but the White House hasn't said anything about it. Now their opposition seems like an, off the top of the head, excuse.

3. An embryo is NOT destroyed!!
How many times do we have to explain this to these idiots? I just got this in an email from a friend today who is an RN: There are no embryos destroyed. An blastocyst is used. It does not become an embryo until the cell is implanted into the wall of the uterus. The blastocyst is undifferientiated cells, that's why they can make them into specific cells, such as blood cells, pancreatic cells, neuron cells, etc. The term embryonic means early, and radical religious groups are using that to make it sound like it is an embryo. It is not. The somatic stem cell research involves unfertilized eggs. If someone considers eggs (oocytes) life, then that same rationale makes sperm life. Hence, masturbation is mass murder and menstruation is manslaughter.

The other point to remember is that these blastocysts are THROWN AWAY unless they are used in stem cell research. How is it pro-life to throw them away when they could be used to discover life-saving cures?

4. pro-life gets a new meaning..
cancer cells deserve to live, so why should we give these "murderers" a chance after killing living cells?

who cares if we can cure diabetes and endless other medical killers? Science is just another liberal slap in the face of God..right? who cares if war is hell? Republicans are prolife..and God is love! :puke:
