'Independent' McCain Flip-Flops on Bush Iraq assessment

WASHINGTON - Just days after Sen. John McCain criticized the Bush administration for portraying the war in Iraq to be easier than it has turned out to be, the Arizona Republican praised President Bush on Friday for giving Americans "an honest assessment" of the war's progress.

McCain's change of tone came in a statement released by his Senate office here after his remarks Tuesday in Columbus, Ohio, which were critical of the administration, had grabbed wide media attention.

An on-line Time magazine commentary had gushed this week of the potential 2008 GOP presidential candidate: "In accusing the White House of misleading America, the senator is flashing his independent credentials."

what an effing idiot this guy is. He has really changed (IMHO) from the 'white knight' of 2000. Watching him these days makes me think of the Woody Allen movie 'Zelig'.
