The Power of Delusions - A look at 5 of the biggest lies of the RW
1. The media has a Liberal bias

The original lie of the New Right. Now it's time to debunk it. First off, "Liberal" has to be defined. Accuracy in Media, probably the most famous of the "Media has a Liberal Bias" groups accuse just about everyone they target of being a Communist.

Communist takes power in South Africa

Anti-War groups are Communist

Communists And Homosexuals

Pinochet saved Chile from communists

International Criminal Court is Communist

Kerry's Commie Friends

"Mr. Bonner had been worth a division to the communists in Central America."
- Reed Irvine, late head of AIM, on Raymond Bonner who was reporting on the El Mozote Massacre in which the Reagan backed government of El Salvador killed 900 men, women, and children.

"(Irvine Reed tends to) throw around accusations about people being communists."
- Donald Graham, publisher of the Washington Post.

Let's take another look at the claim of liberal media and how the quest to 'neutralize' it has led to cronyism, corruption, and crime.

Kenneth Tomlinson was appointed as Chairman of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting in September 2003. Hen then embarked on a quest to purge the CPB of what he perceived as being a 'liberal bias'.

During his tenure:

Tomlinson commissioned a $10,000 study into Bill Moyers' PBS program, "Now with Bill Moyers" without informing the board of the investigation.

Tomlinson appears to have violated both the federal law and the corporation's own rules in raising $5 million to underwrite The Journal Editorial Report, a PBS program by the famously conservative editorial board of The Wall Street Journal.

Investigators at the Corporation for Public Broadcasting said on 15 November 2005 "that they had uncovered evidence that its former chairman had repeatedly broken federal law and the organization's own regulations in a campaign to combat what he saw as liberal bias."

And he's friends with Karl Rove too.

Apparently to the people who say that the media has a liberal bias being to the left of George Will makes you a Far Left Communist.

2. We've got to fight them over there so we don't have to fight them over here

Where is 'there'?

Ever since the war on Iraq began, the US and the UK have continually had to stop terrorists on our own soil.

There is also an Al Qaeda affiliated regime in Somalia which has come to power only recently, which has declared Holy War on Muslims who disagree with them and the nation of Ethiopia as well.

It's seems like the US is the only force that is stuck on the flypaper known as Iraq.

3. Not all Muslims are terrorists, but all terrorists are Muslims

This one is not hard to debunk, just look at the facts.

From 1995 to to 2004, there have been a series of Far Right/Neo-Nazi/Christian Identity terrorist attacks that have left 184 people dead.

4. Ahmadinejad will fire missiles and destroy our allies

This isn't true because Ahmadinejad isn't in charge of the armed forces. What happens to Iran's missiles isn't in Ahmadinejad's department, that is controlled by the Commander-in-Chief of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corp, Yahya Rahim Safavi. The IRGC is separate from the other armed forces, but even if it was part of it, it still wouldn't be under Ahmadinejad's power, but it would be under the power of the Supreme Leader of Iran.

5. There have been no terrorist attacks on the US since 9/11

There have actually been 3 terrorist attacks on American soil since 9/11, besides the ones mentioned above which were perpetrated by Far Right fanatics.

2001 Anthrax Attacks
5 people killed, 17 people injured. (There is also evidence which indicates this being a domestic terrorist attack as well)

Beltway sniper attacks
10 people killed, 3 people injured.

Ricin attack upon Washington D.C.
No injuries, but several Senate offices were shut down.

To stop the RW, we can't just beat them at the polls, but we must debunk their propaganda as well.

Edited on Sun Aug-27-06 04:21 PM by IChing
Conspiracies can work two ways,
the damn commie liberal, Martin Luther King secular conspirators
and the racist, right wing, CIA, industrialist anti-environmentalist conspirators.

We know
that far more real conspiracies have been proven to be done
by the right wing through history.
