that's the kind of leader we want, one that runs away when discourse appears just like our
pretzeldent and Cindy Sheehan.

4. Close enough to steal
and you'd better bet they'll do just that. They want Allen to win this one because they want to run him in 2008. He's the fundy knight in shining armor and can be persuaded to accept Jebbie as his running mate.

He's also the sacrificial lamb, but they still want him to have the start of an election win going into the next campaign.

They'll cheat to make George Allen win in 2006, but not cheat in 2008 to make him president?

43. No, they desperately need a Democrat in 2008
to blame for all the misery caused by their stupid policies.

Then they want Jebbie to ride in on his white stallion in 2012 to rescue the country.

44. What an odd thing to say
Though admittedly there were a few efforts, historically speaking, by democrats to try to steal elections the rare instance of democrats trying to steal elections these days are statistically inconsequential.

The evil tatics of Democrats seem to revolve around doing voter registration drives, ride-to-the polls, and *gasp* trying to get poor and and minority voters (as well as everyone else) to the polls. None of which is illegal.

Republicans however have slightly different tactics. They try to drive down voter registration, particularly in minority communities and near college campuses (how very democratic of them). They create confusing legal hurdles. They build phoney scrub lists designed to deny the vote to supposed "convicted felons" (bad enough that laws exist that strip someone who has served their time). They hire goons to stake out polling places in black SUV's with cameras to intimidate peopl. They intentionally push districts to use defective machines. They IGNORE votes cast by servicemen (despite all protestations to the contrary).

In the history of Democrat cheating, most of it was doen by the Dixie-crats who (big surprise) defected to the Republican party when the Dem's decided to do the right thing.

Oh that and Mayor friggin Daley.

45. Democrats will never take back the South
if liberals keep disrespecting the South. I guess even open minded people need whipping boys.

Any evidence that Dixiecrats stole elections? I think Daley and the Chicago machine made Dixiecrats look like choir boys.

46. Am I blind??!!
I don't know but I am pretty sure that I mentioned Daley in the last line of my original post.

And lets stick to the gist of my post thank you which was comparing Democrats and Republicans stealing of elections.

Evidence of Dixiecrats stealing elections?

I don't know I would say that the constant war on the rights of African Americans to vote might actually be evidence of stealing elections. Though I could be wrong. Personally I don't care what party you are in, if you aid in this activity, or even attempt to justify it, then you do not deserve to be in office.

Jim Crow was a way of life down south to deny it or claim that somehow bringing it up is somehow wrong or politically inconvenient is one of the major contributing reasons why it is so easy to take similar actions to deprive people of the right to vote nowadays.

Poll taxes, Intelligence tests, and intimidation by the police have been replaced with buggy machines, scrub lists, and dirty tricks.

And by the way I am utterly equal opportunity about this. Neither Arizona nor Ohio are considered a part of the "old south" and both had more than their share of corruption.

I would question your statement about Democrats inability to "win the south"

If we cannot legitimately point out and correct an injustice that goes against our democratic way of life then what have we won?

And in fact if we do not correct this injustice than the only way we will be assured of victory will be to join in that corruption and fight filth with filth and should that become the way of things perhaps it is better if we give up our illusions and faith in democracy.

Let this be a trend that gets better as time goes by (like a fine wine).

I actually saw one poll that asked if the macaca thing would help or hurt Allen. Something like 7% thought it would help him. Maybe they thought it would bring out the stupid racist vote. Geez.

I sent money to Webb. I live 3000 miles from Virginia but he is such a creep I wanted to do what I could to get that guy off the political stage. He wants to be president fercrissake. Time to nip this one in the bud.

14. I'm thinking Holy Joe just might have a Macaca moment
before this is over - not in a racist sense - but he is likely to do something very stupid - which will do him in - I also think as people in CT begin to focus on this the independents and the Dems will have to see the basic unfairness of what Holy Joe is doing - I have nothing against running independent - but you don't run as an independent because you lost the freaking primary....

Hope so because if Holy Joe isn't booted to the curb I will be devastated I have waited for him to be gone for a LONG LONG LONG time.

so if we pick up Virginia, I can live with LIEberman I-Conn, as long as he caucuses with us and votes with us when it matters on the important issues other than war. Webb will make a damn fine senator from virginia, much better than the racist from southern california.

31. Joe votes with Bush
on the important issues like Supreme Court Justice filibusters. Keep using his name in conjunction with Bush as the Chicken-in-Chief isn't very popular in blue Connecticut. Hang Bush around his neck like a rotting albatross, and hang Cheney around his neck also. Remember Cheney said the voters of Connecticut who supported Lamont were in league with terrorists. Me thinks Cheney doth protest too much. Who benefited from 9-11?
And as for Joe being an independent, that's bullshit. Joe is the Likud candidate.

32. Signs Of Progress, Perhaps?
This poll demonstrates the difficulty I and without much
doubt others have of interpreting and dealing with the current
situation. The basic idea of Democrats needing our support
sounds simple, but is still important to reiterate.
The question that's harder to answer is what our
activities and attitude should be at this time.
Those who know what I'm writing about lately may think I
sound like a broken record, but dealing with the emotional
side of life is important, even though more difficult for me
to assess. The struggles mainly have to do with how much
responsibility we have to maintain discipline and focus. I
still think it's important, but I'm leaning more towards
trying to combine happiness with doing good things, as opposed
to punishing ourselves unnecessarily for being upbeat. I
think I didn't consider the positive aspects of maintaining a
positive outlook and demeanor enough. I'm still not certain
as the exact approach to take, but allowing ourselves some
joy, even while not being certain of the future, seems like a
good idea right now. I suppose we should be prepared to dig
deep, but only to the extent necessary or if we think
something significant can be attained. It still has to be
considered on an individual basis, depending on your position
in society. Of course we must continue to work steadily, in
order to see the results we wish to see, and that may be in
some ways happening. Good Luck!

Its funny how you are very happy over the fact that Webb is winning this race, yet are staunchly against Lieberman in connecticut. Webb is clearly a more conservative candidate than Lieberman, but I guess that doesn't matter. Democrat senate at all cost.

36. Yes, control is important
Edited on Mon Aug-28-06 09:57 AM by Stuckinthebush
(Edited to take out a comment that is best left for the mods)

If you think Lieberman will stick with the Dem caucus, then think again.

End game...a majority of D's in the Senate and House. Leadership of the caucus is more important than individual members' viewpoints. Lieberman will either not be a part of the caucus (most likely), or will be a very unreliable member of the caucus. I'll take a conservative D over a conservative I any day of the week.

Are you saying that you have no problem with Republican control of the Senate?
