'Death To Israel' Rally Permit Holder Attends GOP Committee Meetings
'Death To Israel' Rally Permit Holder Attends GOP Committee Meetings
Robert Breeze, local criminal defense attorney, has obtained permits for a "Death to Israel" rally to coincide and be co-located with the Utahvoices rally.
From SL Tribune Article:
http://www.sltrib.com/search/ci_4242208

Breeze, 52, said his goal is to protest "the torture and murder inflicted on Muslims by Israel and the penetration of the U.S. media by Israeli intelligence."

While he said his group - the Center to Prevent Corporate Media Lying - has other members and financial donors, Breeze wouldn't name them. And he acknowledged some of his past protests against media coverage of the Iraq war that he held in front of the KSL studios included paid participants from the homeless shelter.

A google search on Mr. Breeze reveals some interesting information.

From SL Weekly Best of Salt Lake 2005:

BEST LOCAL PARTISAN CHICKEN LITTLE

Robert Breeze

During the heated 2004 election season, we grew so used to hearing political parties warn of the doom to come should the opposition win, it was easy to overlook yet another ominous pronouncement. Yet there was something special about the comments made at a Salt Lake County Republican Central Committee meeting, where attorney Robert Breeze urged abandoning the endorsement of Nancy Workman as county mayor because a Democratic win would "turn county government over to the side of darkness and an army of gay rights activists." He only forgot the part about dogs and cats living together, and mass hysteria.

In Robert Breeze's incarnation as a rabid anti-zionist, he fails to make mention of any party affiliations.

Searches for his 'organization', the "Center to Prevent Corporate Media Lying", reveal nothing.

Could it be that Mr. Breeze's inflammatory, dumbed-down message of hate has the true motive of distorting a sensible message of concern coming from real citizens?

4. some more info...
From: Rallies abound this week

• "Death to Israel" rally
Robert Breeze, a co-founder of the Center to Prevent Corporate Media Lying, applied for the longest permit of the five groups — 14 hours, from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. Wednesday.
Breeze wants protesters to wander over to his group on the sidewalks around Washington Square during other demonstrations. He characterizes his rally as having an anti-Israel slant.
"We're sick and tired of paying tribute money to Israel while they torture Palestinians and spy on the United States of America," Breeze said. "We just wanted to be on scene during the duration of the festivities. That doesn't mean that we'll have people there every second, but we wanted to have the right to be there."
State Rep. David Litvack, D-Salt Lake, said the city may have no choice but to grant the permit, the Associated Press reported.
"It's scary. As someone who is Jewish; it's threatening," he said, but added that it does not violate the state's hate-crimes law, which he sponsored.
"Hate speech, as threatening as it is, as detestable as it is, as violent as it is, is protected as a constitutional right," he said.

The article also has more information about other, non-wacko, speakers and the rallies they are holding that day.

21. sometimes I wonder if those "movements" are created
solely for that purpose. In Europe they are called "agents provocateurs". It's a very old technique. The critics of Israeli warcrimes should look into those movements and see who finances them.

5. Yup, sounds to me like Special Ops to discredit peace protests.
"An army of gay rights activists." Hm.

Typical agent provocateur. A loudmouth who'll say anything/do anything for money. Somebody ought to counter with a "Life to Israel and its Neighbors" demo.

--------------------------------

It's interesting, though. I think it's only a matter of time before the Bush junta stabs Israel in the back. "Death to Israel" may be this nut's take on the subliminal signals at Republican meetings.

11. Interesting...
I was on a thread the other day about this same topic. Before it seemed to be known that he had repuke ties, there were various people willing to defend this person for various reasons ranging from a free speech argument to several less noble or noteworthy arguments. Now that this man has been tied to the repukes, it seems no one is willing to defend him.

Is it more offensive to some that this man has repuke ties, then that he would hold a "Death to Israel" rally?

14. The latter. The fact that he is GOP doesn't surprise me and gives me
a better understanding as to why he'd want such a rally at the same location and time as a peace rally.

18. I agree with you...
but it seems the thread the other day just talked about the rally (not so much the man or organization), and there were quite a few people willing to stick up for it. Some were arguing that this is a free speech issue, and IMHO that's at least a legitimate argument to have. Others were arguing about his goals and didn't see anything wrong with the statement "Death to Israel" as they were interpreting it. In either case, there were quite a few defenders.

Now it is learned that the person has repuke ties, and no one is willing to make the same arguments here, despite the fact that the man's repuke affiliation shouldn't have changed anything to someone who truly believes this is a free speech issue, and shouldn't change anything to someone who truly believes that there's nothing wrong with that message.
