RadioShack Uses E-Mail to Fire Employees; Stock Rises
http://sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/n/a/2006/08/30/financial/f131351D00.DTL

RadioShack Corp. notified about 400 workers by e-mail that they were being dismissed immediately as part of planned job cuts.

Employees at the Fort Worth headquarters got messages Tuesday morning saying: "The work force reduction notification is currently in progress. Unfortunately your position is one that has been eliminated."

<snip>

Derrick D'Souza, a management professor at the University of North Texas, said he had never heard of such a large number of terminated employees being notified electronically. He said it could be seen as dehumanizing to employees.

<snip>

Shares of RadioShack rose 29 cents, or 1.6 percent, to close at $18.21 Wednesday on the New York Stock Exchange.

See how that works? The less people you have working, the better the economy gets.

Wouldn't it be great if everyone was fired? The stock market would go through the roof and just think how much that would help the economy. Whoohoooo!

1. Thanks for posting this. I was planning on buying new speakers from RS.
I'll go elsewhere now. What a crappy way to treat employees.

2. I don't shop at radio shack.
I must of intuitively known that they don't care about anything but their profit. Very short sided.
