ok, after a few more phone calls to a few more sources, here's what I got (no one want's to go 'on the record' so this is all I can say)

- LAY OFF PETER WERBE. All indications I have is Mike PERSONALLY told him not to talk about it.

- As Sam Seder noted.. THERE HAS BEEN NO "OFFICIAL" AIR AMERICA STATEMENT ON THIS ISSUE. THE WORD "OFFICIAL" is IMPORTANT. In Fact NO ONE I TALKED TO HAS BEEN ABLE TO GET ANY "OFFICIAL CONFIRMATION" OF THE MATTER.

- DON'T TRY TO SNEAK ON THE AIR AND PEPPER HOSTS ABOUT THE ISSUE.

- DO KEEP MAKING PHONE CALLS, SENDING EMAIL, SENDING SNAIL MAIL. ***MOST IMPORTANT***

- This last bit is cryptic for a reason, those that understand, explain it to those that don't.

Looking back on what I said, your anger can cloud your reason at times.

If Mike personally told Peter not to do that, then that is cool with me.

Many of us are angy, we feel betrayed, and we feel like we are being told our voices are irrelevant and do not matter. And when we let it get the best of us we say things and feel things we should probably have thought twice about before expressing them.

In fairness to Peter, Rosco and others who were quick to hit me with this point are right. If you think about it, Peter was put into an IMPOSSIBLE situation and he has to deal with it.

We should not let our anger at what happened to Mike cloud our reason as to how the other hosts must deal with it.

I am glad Sam did what he did, but that's Sam.

Like I said earlier, I have always held Peter in high regard. If there is ANYONE who is one of the good guys, it is him. Maybe we all need to cool down a little bit.

Or at least focus the anger where it belongs.

It is tempting to link the Owl imagery to the experience of alien abductees who report screen-memories of Owls in order to black out the alleged truth of their stories. However, the evidence in the series points away from this interpretation. First, the fact that Project Bluebook started out investigating UFOs and then changed their focus to the events of the TP woods indicates that they believed there were terrestrial explanations for the UFO reports. Also, the messages that at first appear to be coming from outer space actually turn out to have emanated from the woods. So I don't think the Owls are part of an extra-terrestrial phenomenon.

However, the Owls are not what they seem, as is repeated in the series. I propose that they are actually servants of the Lodges. Initially, the Owls worked for the WL spirits, and their job was to scout for love. It is possible that they are also able to collect love and transform it into water. I don't believe that these actually are Owls, rather they are servant spirits (also known as 'familiars') that take possession of the Owls. There are still some Owls working for the WL, but most have been taken over by BL spirits now, and their role is to scout for and harness fear rather than love. The Owls do not create fear, but they seek it, and either report back to the spirits or harness the fear for them. When Earle learns that fear opens the gateway to the BL (ep28) he exclaims "Of course! These night creatures that hover on the edge of our nightmares are drawn to us when we radiate fear, their bread and butter!" I think here he is referring specifically to the Owls as the night-time creatures on the edge of our nightmares. Note that Owls do appear several times as visions in nightmares (eg. to Coop in ep9). Recall also that: the Log Lady heard the same Owl call on the night her husband died and on the night Laura died (ep24), an Owl watches as Leo terrorises Shelley in ep21, when Coop and the others visit the Log Lady (in ep5) she takes them inside and says "The Owls won't see us in here", then the log tells the story of what happened on the night Laura died : as there were screams in the darkness "the Owls were flying" and "the Owls were near". The reason I believe that there are still some WL Owls is that the Owls are linked to the abduction of Major Briggs. The Owl appears to Coop in the woods (ep17) and the Major remembers a giant Owl that is "big enough to cloud mind and memory" (ep20). If the Major is being abducted by WL spirits, then they too seem to take the form of Owls. The Major describes the Owl image as 'disturbing', but he doesn't seem to fear it in the way that people who have visions of BL spirits do.

Agent Cooper has just been shot three times in the torso and is lying in his hotel room, #315, at the Great Northern Hotel. "The Giant" appears and asks if Cooper will believe him if he tells him three things and they come true. The clues are, "There is a man in a smiling bag"; "The owls are not what they seem"; and "Without chemicals he points." "The man in the smiling bag" was Jacques Renault. "Without chemicals he points" pertains to Phillip Gerard/Mike, "The One-Armed Man." "The owls are not what they seem" is the only one of the three that has not yet been understood by Cooper.

a "vortex" of some sort, with pure evil one side (black lodge) and pure good on the other (white lodge). the owls are always outside of the red curtained room. they are not what they seem because they, like Bob, take control of twin peaks' inhabitants (the real world in people) and so they are merely symbols of evil and not in themselves anything other than symbolic.

because both pure evil and pure good are "natural" elements of the universe, some who are drawn to either or can come back from "walking with fire" to seeing the light.

what Cooper has not yet figured out, however, and how that applies here makes no sense. if I remember correctly from my TP watching days, Cooper sees Bob in his own reflection. that is the "owl" that is not what "it seems." i have always assumed (as one can only do with Lynch) that the whole process for Cooper was finding his way either to the black lodge or the white lodge and somehow,and that everything else was in his mind, like a vision quest. it would seem that if we are to take this and apply it to the Malloy situation, that

a). evil forces have inhabited the AAR body (like Mr. Palmer, for example)
b). that AAR has walked with fire, that is to say, made the deal with evil
c). and that such things were bound to happen given the environment/politically and funding - wise

Somehow I don't see this as what the OP is trying to tell us. I suspect something else altogether. Something happened in the last few days to cause this. The owls are not what they seem could be pointing to friends/or maybe friends stabbing him in the back.

Look at it this way: Sheldon Drobney and the missus have a long friendship with Mike. They also got one hell of a lot of clout at AAR.

Final Hypothesis: Danny Goldberg or someone under him went way too far and there is a battle raging. Tail feathers might well be burning as we speak.

Also, the contacts, by the public, have flooded them and raised eyebrows in extremis.

I hope Tandalayo is right and someone's "tail feathers might well be burning as we speak" over this. I hope that the outrage and anger that's been (and continues to be) expressed to those in charge at AAR adds fuel to that fire, and will help them to see what a huge mistake they've made. Never watched Twin Peaks, but here's what jumped out of that owl business to me:

The COO of AAR left to pursue other opportunities. I had to cite this posting from a radio enthusiast board; the original Radio & Records news posting of this has gone away.

But with senior higher ups having a cat fight amongst themselves no wonder Mike Malloy was 'let go'.

Hopefully these other outfits come through and get him a steady paycheck.

I was happy to hear his voice. He still doesn't know why. He has been contacted by 3 outlets already.

I have seen so many speculations online and I was going to comment on a few of them but I have decided I won't. One might be feasible after reading Shelby Drobney's article but the others I think are totally ridiculous if you know Mike at all.

Oh well, maybe someday we will know why some suit is afraid to keep such a talent. It sounds like someone is afraid to stand up to any flack coming their way.

Dang. From what Christine said it sounded like KSAC would be interested in carrying him. He could be syndicated and picked up by a number of stations.

I also plan to contact XM radio as well and voice my displeasure..I urge other XM subscribers to do so as well!!
