Well, while Mike and Kathy enjoy a fine glass of Australian wine; while Mike and Molly take long walks to grok leaves and stones and stuff; let's remind ourselves and each other of why we are upset that MM is "off" the air, for now. Please post some memories and choice moments with the Mike Malloy show below........ (if the OP is too long, please skip and add your "moments" below)
I propose that we who "get" Mike have gotten his message and can carry on the nightly catharsis with or without him. Wasn't that the point? Mike always told us: he ain't no hero, no savior-- he is one of US! A TruthSeeker and a true patriot. We who love our country carry on.
To me, the thing about Malloy is, he ALWAYS had his thumb DI-rectly on the national Zeitgeist. Anyone can play a buncha clips of "Chucklenuts" Greatest Flubs or the latest Max Headroom-isms from Tony the Snowman.........................
Malloy goes right to the heart, the core, the center. That MAY be why he is off the air. Or not.
Anyway, I would like to share two examples that really touched me. One was after the State of the Union address in 2005 last year. The parents of a soldier who died in Iraq were made to stand in the televised spotlight and smile while Bush praised their son's sacrifice. They were directed to turn around a greet an "Iraqi" woman behind them who was "grateful" to them for the cameras.
We millions who protested the bogus war prior to March 2003 found it excruciating to watch-- watching this charade, watching this couple being put through this torment. it was not an "honor" to be props in another Rove/Bushco. media op. That was BEFORE we knew for sure that the "Iraqi" woman was a plant-- employed or related to a diplomat or something.
It was sickening. It was one of the most heartbreaking things I have ever seen and one of the most evil manipulations of human emotion ever.
That night-- the Malloy show. The State of the Union. Lots to talk about. Take your pick. Soundbites galore.
What did Mike lead with? That couple, that moment, that manipulation, that OUTRAGEOUSLY OFFENSIVE BOGUSNESS.
That's what Malloy is. He's our national bullshit detector. And he is ALWAYS spot on. Funniest at his darkest. And he is not GONE.
#2 that I would like to share is the privilege of being at the California Impeachment Forum -- hosted by Malloy -- with 1,000 others (during the CA Democratic convention) in April of this year. Willie T and I posted on it (don't have the links at the moment).
One thing I never said was that at first glance, Malloy is one sexy, fit, trim, energized figure. Even if he is NOT one, he has the bearing of a hero.
And I was close enough to see his face clearly (b/w the 2 ovations in the excerpt that follows) to watch him scowl intelligently through his glasses at his paperwork, sitting at the onstage table, preparing for the 5 illustrious panelists to arrive onstage and begin the discussion.
Mike Malloy is the real deal.
I am not mad or sad. I'm glad. I'm glad for all the time we've had with him -- and the time we will have with him in the future. That future depends on us honoring Mike and Kathy's work by carrying on in that spirit, seeking Truth -- not Truthiness -- and inspiring others as he inspires us.
That's Democracy, kids.
:patriot: :toast:
A lil bit from the CA Impeachment Hearing thread:
A thousand people filled the historic Crest Theater in Sacramento on Saturday night to discuss the impeachment of George W. Bush. Down the street at the Convention Center, California Democrats were holding their state convention. The Progressive Caucus of the Democratic Party presented the debate of our future, on the right side of history: “Impeachment: Dialogue, Debate & Action.”
And when the Moderator arrived on stage with 2 panelists the place erupted with a standing ovation. “MIKE MALLOY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.” :applause: :yourock:
The first speaker was Tim Goodrich, an honorably discharged member of the Air Force, deployed twice to Iraq and once to Afghanistan. Noticing the discrepancies between Bush’s rhetoric before the Iraq war and the realities he found there himself (including weekly bombings going back twelve years that were being increased while Bush talked of “diplomacy first”) Mr. Goodrich decided to see the truth for himself. He joined Global Exchange on a fact-finding delegation to Iraq in 2004. He returned and began speaking out against the war and co-founded Iraq Veterans Against the War. He called for the impeachment of Bush and Cheney.
And the crowd had something to say:
BACKBONE! JAIL TO THE CHIEF! IMPEACH BUSH! IMPEACH BUSH!
Mike Malloy received a second standing ovation when he went to the podium to address the rowdy and enthusiastic crowd.
“I’m old enough to remember when the entire country was a ‘free speech zone’ and the entire Democratic Party was ‘progressive.’ Let’s hope the Democratic Party can return to that role.
“We must remove this administration that is being run as a criminal enterprise. They behave as if they are beyond Constitutional law and international law. They view checks and balances as an impediment to corporatism.
“They are acting outside the Constitution, which was also done by Nixon, Reagan and Bush I... This is the most aggressive and blatant assault on the Rule of Law by the Bush administration, that uses juvenile coyness and deliberate obfuscation.
“This administration must be removed from office legally and peacefully.”
