Frist will be fined for lying on his medical license renewal.

<snip>
WASHINGTON - Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist will probably be fined and have to make up for failing to do continuing medical education that Tennessee requires of doctors with active licenses.

Additional disciplinary action, such as suspending his medical license, is unlikely, a spokeswoman for the Tennessee Department of Health said Wednesday.

Spokeswoman Andrea Turner said Frist, a prominent heart-lung surgeon before coming to the Senate in 1995, is expected to be fined $40 for every hour of continuing education he did not complete. He also will have to make up the missed hours of continuing education within the next six months and do an extra 10 penalty hours within the year, she said.

"Disciplinary action when you don't meet the requirements is always a possibility. However, I don't feel the possibility is substantial," she said.

Republican values and integrity at work, again. :eyes:

1. A good investigative reporter could nail Frist's ass on this one...
...and I would think that medical malpractice insurance companies would drop him like a steaming hot boiled potato.

Please come and kickstart the VP, ASAP!...that is all...

HE FORGOT!

I say use the nuclear option on his ass and put him in jail for playing doktor without a license. He forgot he wasn't a doktor? He forgot to report his income? Hell he might sew someone up with a claw hammer or a saw in their chest! Wouldn't you hate to go to the ER and end up with him for a heart doktor? Hell even Dr. Mengela had a real license I'll bet!

As I recall, every document I've signed says something about making false statements, prosecution, and "fullest extent of the law." I guess Dr? Frist didn't have such clauses in his document?

17. The real question is whether he was practicing medicine with a
suspended license. If he treated someone who thought he was a fully licensed doctor during the period when, technically, he shouldn't have been, well, that's a real issue.

If he was just pretending to be a doctor on TV, I guess I don't care that much, except about the lying part, of course.

But frankly, given some of the bizarre medical opinions to come out of that man's mouth, I wouldn't go to him as a patient under any circumstances, up to date certifications or not.

19. OK, Here is what you need to look for regarding punishment ....
...there are bound to be other physicians out there who did the same thing Frist did, and were disciplined by the Medical Board. What punishment did they receive? If it was substantially different than that extended to Frist, there is a stink to be made over special treatment.

You can bet someone less politically connected got their license suspended for the same conduct. If the same happened to Frist, he at least could not go around giving video diagnoses as a licensed physician for at least a month.

And the bit about blaming it on an aide who signed for him? Because there's no law that says an aide CAN'T sign for him? Oh, and he didn't know he had to complete con-ed? Puh-frickin'-lease!

22. We must not forget....
... he didn't just not do his required classes, he lied to the board saying he did.

That's fraud.

Even if a staffer did it (he still had to approve the staffer doing it).

If he claims it was another evil staffer, why should he be allowed to be in control of anything if he can't control his own office staff?

24. Fined? He needs to lose his license! Really! Anybody who is ..
so out of touch with getting his CLE and his license, needs to lose them all! He thinks that since he is one of the "priviledged ones", he doesn't have to worry about such things as the CLE!

REVOKE HIS LICENSE! He doesn't deserve it!

25. Some of these responses are a bit over the top
I deplore Frist and his ilk with the rest of you, but many, many professionals submit for license renewal without having the proper CEUs. I myself was fined a few years back for submitting my renewal short of the requirements. I was fined $200, showed proof of the missing CEUs, and that was the end of it. Sometimes, busy individuals can't complete the requirements in time. It is much easier to pay a fine and bring your requirements up to date than it is to let your license expire by not submitting for renewal.

Opposite to what many have posted here or on other boards, he is not getting special treatment. Revoking his license or accusing him of fraud would be a case of the punishment not fitting the crime.

We have bigger fish to fry. Frist has no credibility as an MD anyway.

Seriously though, glad I can be the first to respond to you after such a long period of silence. I just wanted to say hello to ya and encourage you to post more often. Though I obviously have no idea where you stand on any given issue, I like the tone in which you came across in that post. It was logical, made sense, was non-inflammatory and was well grounded. We can ALWAYS use more posts like that here.

Just wanted to say welcome, though lord knows you've been here a while. :)

27. Thanks for the kind words!
I've been lurking for some time. Dyed-in-the-wool progressive, to the consternation of my fellow professionals. Worse, I work in the insurance industry, so I'm surrounded by ill-informed, me-first repugs everywhere I go. But I manage to keep them on their toes, beating them up with facts, which without you and others on this site, I couldn't do.

I strongly feel that until we as Democrats are ready to stop trying to be all things to all people, and are willing to stand up to the constant attacks on our patriotism we will never have a representative voice in our government. We cannot run on the Republican's incompetence, election fraud, disenfranchisment, etc. because they don't clearly articulate how we are different, or better for the country. That is why I thought this post was worth responding to.

I await the day when people like Kerry, Gore, etc.. are replaced as the faces of our party by men and women who are willing to take the right's best shots and stand their ground. Where are our Dick Cheneys, Sean Hannitys, Michael Savages, who despite their delusions, are willing to be excoriated by the left, as they continue to fight for what they believe to be right (pun intended!) I am seeing some of that with Howard Dean, Paul Hackett and Wesley Clark, but all too often, we are still backing down from the fight to win the hearts and minds of our country.

And finally, Rangers all the way baby. Despite growing up in the shadow of the Meadowlands, being a teenager when they came over from Colorado, and formerly living in West Orange about 1/2 a mile from their training rink at South Mountain Arena, I've always hated them. Yanks, Knicks, Rangers, Giants, the originals, and still the best (well, not the Knicks until they jettison Isiah)
