DeLay replacement to appear on Texas ballot

Governor Rick Perry (R-TX) has announced a special election to fill the remainder of former Rep. Tom DeLay's term, according to Congressional Quarterly.

The special election will allow Houston city councilwoman Shelley Sekula-Gibbs a place on the ballot, which could boost her write-in candidacy for the 22nd District seat.

Republicans had struggled to get a candidate on the November ballot after DeLay resigned from the House and moved to Virginia, while Texas Democrats successfully sued to block a ballot change.

Think of what all the money he's wasting to have two elections for the same position on the same day. I'll bet Texas could use that money for education.

If I were a Texan, I'd consider trying to impeach him for gross fiscal negligence.

one will be to fill the term of DeLay in the current Congress, the other for the same seat in the 110th convening of the Congress. Having the write in candidates name on the ballot in the special election could help a bit but still the people of the district do deserve to have someone represent them in Congress from November to January.

Playing by the rules is for other people.

1965 Voting Rights Act. This decision should be challenged in court. If I were Lampson, I would not file for this seat. It would mean his name would appear twice on the same ballot. You can be sure that the Repugs are going to put the special election first on the ballot.
