Plame/Wilson lawsuit will not include Armitage... for now.

http://article.nationalreview.com/?q=YzM3YjhhZGIxZjExNjIxOGU2NTEyZjE0ODFhYmFlNzY=

Will Joe and Valerie Wilson Sue Richard Armitage? No.
They just want Cheney, Rove, and Libby.

By Byron York

The new attorney for Joseph and Valerie Wilson says the Wilsons do not plan to add former State Department official Richard Armitage to their lawsuit against top Bush administration officials because Armitage “did not act with the same level of malevolence” as Vice President Dick Cheney, top White House aide Karl Rove, and former Cheney aide Lewis Libby in the CIA-leak affair.

...

Melanie Sloan, the executive director of CREW, is now the lead attorney for the Wilsons. In an interview with National Review Online, she said that if the account of Armitage’s outing of Plame in Hubris is correct, then “Armitage was just basically gossiping with Novak and just mentioned that Valerie worked for the CIA. His mentioning that to Novak is really not the same as the concerted effort that Cheney, Rove, and Libby made to get Valerie’s undercover identity out to the newspaper.”

“The underlying heart of the suit is about the conspiracy of these individuals to out Valerie Wilson in order to retaliate against Joseph Wilson,” Sloan continued, “and it doesn’t look at this point that Armitage was party to that plan.”

...

“I’m not trying to say that what Armitage did was just fine,” Sloan continued. “It is obviously not OK. But it did not have the same level of malevolence as what Rove, Cheney, and Libby were trying to do, which was to out Valerie to punish Joseph.”

1. Armitage never said Wilson's wife was fair game--that is the difference NT

2. The important thing
about Armitage is that the things he told the FBI and later Mr. Fitzgerald have been secret. Because of a couple circumstances, including Mr. Fitzgerald's not being allowed to author a "final report," the things that Armitage may know about three specific OVP/WHIG participants named Cheney, Rove, and Gingrich, could likely remain secret. Now, although he will almost certainly not be a target of the Wilson's civil suit, he can be questioned.

While some in the media would present this Armitage episode as closing the door on the Plame scandal, in truth it opens up many more.

3. I Am So Hoping
that they do call him for the very reasons you state. I also wonder if RA will continue to remain silent. I understand this is a guy with a lot of passion and that when he gets angry it's batten down the hatches time. So when, I'm wondering, is he going to blow? Because if all reports are correct, he was mighty ticked at the way his boss Colin was treated. And considering that most now consider the Powell reputation/myth shredded, I'm wondering when RA is gong to take his revenge.

4. It's interesting
to think about this "oh, he's a gossip!" business. Most of the public doesn't have a clue what he did in Vietnam. The "gossip" bit was a cover for his unfortunate role in several of the Iran-Contra events.

5. They're All Gossips Inside The Beltway
It the coin of the realm, so making a big deal of him being a "gossip" is just more disinfo and more of the disrespectful attitude they throw out to "the people" out there, who couldn't possibly know anything about anything. What hasn't been pointed out enough is that he did not tell Beastley Bob that she was a covert agent. Yet somehow the creepy columnist knew she was covert and the section she worked in. That is specifically non gossip info.

7. Remember, Novakula listed TWO SOURCES for his Plame leak.
If Armitage didn't reveal she was covert, then Rove did.

Rove is not out of hot water by a long shot.

10. Question, H20 Man about what you say about Fitz.....
Because of a couple circumstances, including Mr. Fitzgerald's not being allowed to author a "final report,

I didn't realize that Fitz wasn't allowed to author a "final report." When did that happen? I missed some of the recent Plamegate info..and must have missed this big news.

When did this happen? :-(

11. Fitzgerald is not an Independent Counsel like Ken Starr was. Indpendent
Edited on Thu Aug-31-06 11:31 PM by Garbo 2004
Counsel Act provided for a report to Congress. The Independent Counsel Act was allowed to expire years ago.

Fitzgerald is a Special Counsel for the DOJ and operates under the rules of grand jury secrecy: hence no report.

13. Freaky Friday on C-spn
had this goofus from National Review saying that the investigation was all over and scoffing at any reference to treason or bush involvement.
They are really playing it like Armitage is the end all. Wrap it up!
