Malloy Update
From his webpage;

UPDATE
Hey Truthseekers, Malloy here. My good friend Peter Werbe will be temporarily broadcasting on Air America Radio at night in my old time slot. He's a good guy, a true left-liberal, and now finds himself in an awkward position. He cannot comment about the circumstances of my termination on the air, which I completely understand and support. I have been in Peter's exact position in the past.

So I have a request: Please treat Peter with the respect he truly deserves. Please keep in mind he did not ask to be in this position. The righteous anger and frustration felt right now by so many supporters of our program should be expressed to Air America Radio directly.

Here's the phone number to call: 212-871-8290 or email to: comments@airamericaradio.com

Again, we will keep you updated as more details develop and thanks as always for your incredible support.

He obviously didn't make the decision to put himself there.

And anyways, regular listeners wil know that Peter and Mike know and respect each other.

16. He's a scab.
Werbe's not an AAR employee. This isn't required in a contract.

If he knew this was coming, and helped do it, he's wrong.

If he didn't know this was coming, and is helping them get away with doing it, he's wrong.

21. Peter has been filling in for a long time now at AAR
So, you can call him a scab if you wish - but you're just plain wrong. If you want people to hear you, you need to be accurate.

Definition:
"4. a worker who refuses to join a labor union or to participate in a union strike, who takes a striking worker's place on the job, or the like."

25. Actually, Peter was a member of his union...
... when he broadcast on i.e. America radio. He was fired in May or June of '03, and i.e. America went down the tubes about 10 months later, IIRC.

So, he's not scab. You don't have to like him, but he's not a scab.

28. Werbe and Malloy are long-time friends and associates.
Werbe is doing what he is doing because Mike Malloy asked him to do it.
Can't you understand that?

These two guys go back years together. They highly respect each other and honor each other's word. Mike asked Peter to continue and say nothing. So that is precisely what Werbe is doing.

Not a scab. He's Malloy's friend who is honoring a personal and professional request made at a very difficult time.

Radio's a nasty, ugly, ruthless business--what happened to Mike is totally par for the course. Don't blame Werbe for it, because it's not his fault.

13. I agree as I wrote last night...Peter really is a great guy,a true liberal
progressive & top radio pro! Malloy got Werbe the AAR fill-in gig & recommended him...I'm NOT listening don't fucking care to...But I assume Werbe is just doing his job, sitting in & hosting a three hour, liberal, call in radio talk show, with two more days left to go...I doubt Werbe will not mention his friend Malloy at the appropriate time, perhaps not exactly when you or I would want him to...but he will. Hey, I miss Malloy as much as anyone - probably more than anyone...no one but Mike can meet my ultra liberal, no bullshit temperament. I already miss him immensely!

18. I take it that Mike understands and supports
Peter Werbe not opining on something over which he had no power and has no inside knowledge.

Speculation only makes bad matters worse.

I wouldn't want to be doing what Peter's doing right now. He's a solid guy, and this has to be really nasty for him, especially given the fact that the roles were directly reversed a few years ago during the demise of IEAmerica. He got the boot before Mike did.

22. we miss one thing - FACTS.
Why was he canned?
Did he do something that justified it? Did he break the station's policy? Did he violate his agreement?
Or did something else happen?

We are all blowing farts into the wind with no idea about the whys and hows and whats.

For all we know the station may have a no drug policy and he was dealing coke to a young female intern. or an old, fat ugly male.
the thing is WE DO NOT KNOW and guesswork is simply that.

Since AFAIK, weekends on AAR are just reruns,

i urge AAR to rehire Malloy at his usual time,

and add some live shows on the weekend, with Werbe getting as many hours as he wants.. perhaps twelve hours each day, if he can handle it. Then he would recuperate on weekdays LOL.

Although, I think it's probably never going to change their minds.

Once a suit gets it in his head that that is what he's going to do, it's done.

I worked in broadcast TV (and radio is much the same or worse) for over 30 years, and the only time someone ever got "unfired" was because of pressure from AFTRA, SAG, IBEW, NABET, or another union. Or a lawsuit that the station lost.

Alas, Malloy is now an un-person on AAR.

He will find a new home.

And out of the ashes, may come another network with the likes of Mike, Guy, and a host of other voices in the wind truth-seekers that don't have much of a venue now.

Someone like Mark Cuban or, Warren Buffet, or a Hollywood type like Charlie Sheen might decide to start up a radio network and lose money for about 5 years.

It could happpen.

V

43. Peter Werbe is great. On air talent is not the problem...
Edited on Fri Sep-01-06 07:30 AM by PBass
The problem is bad management. No vision for the station. I heard that Marc Maron was fired because of a personality conflict (Danny Fields found him annoying, or something along those lines). That is just totally unprofessional management. And now, just a few months later, apparently Danny Fields is out, too. Can anyone say CHAOS???

In another thread, some people were speculating that Mike Malloy was fired for questioning the official story behind 911... That seems like complete nonsense to me. Seems to me that Mike Malloy has been delving into that topic for as long as I can remember (since he joined AAR, anyway). It was over a year ago that he had a long interview (maybe even 2 parts) with the fellow who wrote the book "Crossing the Rubicon". If AAR management is unhappy about broaching that subject, they are slow to action.

You don't throw out somone as popular as Mike, other reasons aside. As far as Marc, all comedians are annoying as hell. It's what we put up with to enjoy their other gifts.

It looks like everyone at AAR is "home alone".
