Chavez woos "Mother Africa" with oil ties

LUANDA (Reuters) - Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez has offered his country's oil expertise to Angola, sub-Saharan Africa's No. 2 crude producer, in a strategy to boost ties with what he calls "Mother Africa" and counter U.S. influence there.

In his first visit to Angola on Thursday, the Venezuelan leader witnessed the signing of a bilateral oil cooperation accord between his country, the world's fifth largest oil exporter, and one of Africa's fastest growing producers.

The agreement, signed by the respective oil ministers, foresees cooperation in all aspects of the oil and gas industry, including possible joint production and refining projects, according to a copy of the text sent to Reuters.

The text said the accord could be implemented through the respective national state oil companies, PDVSA of Venezuela and Sonangol of Angola.

While Bush and his minions are busy getting our asses handed to us in Iraq and running around all hysterical about Iran who has effectively called their bluff Chavez just keeps taking care of business. Important business.

2. Why would we hate him? He was among the first to offer formal aid post
Katrina, IIRC.

Didn't he also generously offer free/discounted heating oil to low income residents in the Bronx, Boston and diesel fuel to Chicago?

Seems like the poor in our own country have lots of reasons to view the Venezuelan president in a favorable light. He seems to care more about our poor than our own worthless president.

And for those who would dismiss these acts as "good PR" - do you think the recipients of this goodwill give one flying fuck about who gets "good PR" out of it?

Anyhoo, I see very little reason anywhere to "hate" Hugo Chavez.

3. Just what is it about Chavez that makes Bush hate him so?
He doesn't foster terrorism does he? He seems more like a little kid who keeps pestering his older brother. Or am I wrong?
