David Horowitz
I am watching him on cspan right now, and I have never heard of this guy before in my life. Is this guy for real? I disagree with about 99% of the crap he is spewing. His main premise is that the professors across our country are liberal leftist extremists, and control indoctrination at their universities. It seems a big smear against anybody who disagree's with him, thats my impression. So, Duers, please enlighten me on this character, what do you think of this guy?

1. I watched earlier today. Notice he follows the formula
"Believe me because I used to be a radical."

And he trashes, Women's Studies, Ethnic Studies and Anthropology.

The appeal is to racism, nationalism and anti-intellectualism.

What creeps me out is the wingnuts have now created a context where this @sshole can get a forum paid for by the Duke Student Union.

7. I agree
it seems his main focus for this...well, "hatred" he has for professors is based solely on Wade Churchill, its like, Horowitz........wait, he just said Coulter is a great centrist on cspan...this guy is a nut job.

10. David Horowitz: Just another turncoat Jew.
I'm Jewish so I can say this.

close to 80 percent of Jews in this country vote for the Democrat. About 20 percent vote Republican.

He reminds me what Ayn Rand did, namely lived in an environment they opposed and then went off the deep end in the other direction.

2. He used to be a big lefty back in the 60's
He's one of those guys who has to be at the extreme end of whatever movement he's involved in. The neocons can keep him. He was an asshole lefty and he's a asshole righty.

11. No, another David Horowitz worked as a consumer advocate, not this one.
The David Horowitz who worked as a consumer advocate once worked for NBC in New York then I believe he went to California and worked on tv there.

3. I thought you were going to say he was dead
Sorry... too many Steve Irwin threads today.

The guy is for real and he's awful. Been around for quite a while. You should see his email list. It's scary.

both egos in the same room.

18. Funny you should mention that
she was on book tv this past weekend as well, for about 3hours actually. I watched a majority of her show, and she would start out making a bit of sense, and then go off the deepend. She would say one thing, and then five seconds later do the opposite of what she "thinks."

20. That's their hook, it seems. It's an expanded version of
conservatives who claim to be Libertarians. lol

I watched her, too. Aside from being obviously ill, she's very good at reframing questions and making sure the talking points go out. It was sort of chilling watching her because she vilified liberals in the strongest terms (e.g. "malevolent") without turning a hair and without any awareness of how self-referential she souonded!

6. He's a sick man.
And he really should be dealt with by some medical specialists before he hurts himself or others, seriously.

People who get off on seeing shock in your face are sick.

8. I agree with that assesment
my opinion on him is sinking with each word he says...he is pretty condescending also, every single dissenting pov at this conference at Duke, he basically calls them "stupid, not smart enough, gullible"....its nuts. He just got done with a rant on professors who have a job forever...and I'm like...well, cops, carpenters, mechanics, etc etc, have jobs for life too, so whats the point? He was trying to stretch the logic that sense politicians have term limits, or can get voted out of power, that professors should be held to the same standards...

I can see it now Professor Joe Schmo canvassing the state, politiciking to keep his job...

15. He likes staging outrages
He is never more impassioned and involved than when he's writing about how the Leftists of the world are coming after him. He wants to be a Conservative Martyr, but so far we haven't obliged him, so most of his complaints end up sounding pretty pathetic.

16. He's a big fan of pie
And does his best to raise money on any pretext. He is at war with the universities in this country and his "Academic Freedom" bills are popular in some states. The problem is that these bills are about diluting knowledge and curbing academic freedom.
