read about it.

ON EDIT: You might recall Bush making a statement to the effect that Pakistan is a sovereign nation, and we can't just go over there an arrest the guy. Mind you, this is while we were invading a sovereign nation that had absolutely nothing to do with 9/11.

2. amnesty to bin Laden???????
The guy who planned and killed about 4,000 Americans? They gave him amnesty? No wonder they are no longer worried about him or even looking for him. The bushes need the bin Ladens. Like the bushes needed Hitler.

I heard yesterday that Pakistan had done this but not that our idiots were behind it. Why would that not surprise me? They are not interested in bin Laden!! He does too much good propaganda for them!!

5. That article was amazing- I didn't catch the paper either
The host did say that several had the same story today.
It must be "out there".

The article mentioned something to the effect that if someone acts peaceful they will be allowed to be in Pakistan.
:freak:

Bin Laden appears to be off the hook.

6. umm. amnesty is grand choice of words if true. There was an article
yesterday on DU where Pakistan basicall 'threw in the towel"--made a deal with talaban NOT to patrol certain areas of Pak.

7. SHAMEFUL
This issue ALONE should result in a Democratic sweep in November. We should latch on to this as proof that Repukes APPEASE TERRORISTS, and cannot be trusted with national security.

Then, we should promise to void the truce with terror and find and kill Bin Laden.

I would love to see Repukes defending terror appeasement.

10. We should be very careful about grabbing what looks to be too good.
Do we remember Dan Rather?

This is just another reason to win the House so there can be an investigation and then any or all warranted action.

17. Kill him ? No trial?
Sorry, we're better then that. I would not vote for anyone advocating killing him without a trial and conviction. We are a country of laws and despite the rants of the right wingers , the 911 attack was a criminal act, not an act of war.

18. I'm not saying that , but the reality on this is...
That we will not be able to take him alive, almost certainly. He will martyr himself, and will likely be surrounded by a few folks who would do the same in his last defense...So, to me, it seems most likely he will one day be taken out by a cruise missile or air strike or predator instead of being frog marched into a prison. We just aren't gonna put boots on the ground in Pakistan any time soon.

I would certainly prefer he be taken alive, tried, and exposed for the crazy that he is...I think he would lose some of his mystique if he were taken alive.

I also do not support the death penalty.

However, I am a realist, and would support the strike that got him since taking him alive seems so absolutely remote.

All hypothetical until we get his partners out of the White House.

24. Right, who is the appeaser now?
Stunning how we seem to live in two realities.

How in the world are the Republicans going to spin this and how far will the media stoop to let them?

8. Here's a link to an article and the quote by a Pakistani general.
There was an article up at ABC but I haven't been able to bring up the site. I suspect the story is in the process of being suppressed.

(snip)
If he is in Pakistan, bin Laden "would not be taken into custody," Major General Shaukat Sultan Khan told ABC News in a telephone interview, "as long as one is being like a peaceful citizen."

9. Robbien posted this yesterday.
I wasn't watching CSPAN, so I don't know what article he read, but this sounds related to it. Article states bin Laden won't be captured in Pakistan as long as he lives a peaceful life. :eyes: Also states that this was reported on ABC Nightly News.

The host showed it again, but I still didn't catch the paper. doh.

Here is one from Pakistan:

http://pakobserver.net/200604/22/news/topstories05.asp?txt=Conditional%20amnesty%20offered%20to%20foreign%20terrorists:%20Sultan

clip...
Islamabad—Director General Inter Service Public Relations Maj Gen Shaukat Sultan has said that no time frame can be given for the ongoing operation against miscreants however if foreign terrorists lay down their arms and get themselves registered than we can offer amnesty to them.

Taking to a select group of Journalists at the ISPR headquarters on Friday Maj Gen Shaukat Sultan said that we cannot give time frame on how long the operation against terrorists would last in the Waziristan agency however we can offer them conditional amnesty if they agree to lay down their arms, get themselves registered and live as peaceful citizens.

15. what this probably means is Ann Coulter has access to state secrets
she was quick to point out how Bin Ladin is "irrelevant" and said it with some authority.
I suspect that Coulter, Limpballs, and other right wing pundits have priveleged access to Bushco strategy before the congress does.
Jeff "topper" Gannon also had unfettered access to the white house.

I"m speculating, of course, but it would explain a great deal, especially how the RW talking points seem to be in the pundit's hands before even the republican congressmen start spouting them.

I would dearly love to have enough evidence to prove this speculation. If we survive to 25 years from now, I hope to deity justice will be served and the truth of the cabal's complicity in all things evil comes to light.

16. Pakistan agrees to 'amnesty' for al Qaeda, Taliban
MIRAN SHAH, Pakistan (AP) — Pakistan's government and pro-Taliban militants on Tuesday signed a peace agreement aimed at ending five years of violent unrest in a tribal region bordering Afghanistan.

Under the deal, the militants are to halt attacks on Pakistani forces in the semiautonomous North Waziristan region and stop crossing into nearby eastern Afghanistan to attack U.S. and Afghan forces, who are hunting al-Qaeda and Taliban forces there.

Pakistani troops are to stop their hugely unpopular military campaign in the restive Pakistani region, in which more than 350 soldiers have died, along with hundreds of militants and scores of civilians.

Senior army officers and militants hugged and congratulated one other after signing the agreement at a school in Miran Shah, the main town in North Waziristan, where thousands of Pakistani troops were deployed following the U.S.-led invasion of Afghanistan after the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks in the United States.
