Zogby Poll: 46% believe there is a connection between Saddam and 9/11

http://www.zogby.com/news/ReadNews.dbm?ID=1169

<snip>

Saddam Link to 9/11 Disputed

Half of American voters (50%) say there is no link between Saddam Hussein and the 9/11 terror attacks, while 46% believe there is a connection. However, just 37% of respondents in the poll agreed that Saddam was connected to the attacks and that the Iraq War was justified as retribution for his involvement, while 48% believed that there is no connection between Saddam and 9/11 and the Iraq War has diverted America’s attention from the War on Terror.

Do you agree or disagree that there was a connection between Saddam Hussein and the 9/11 terror attacks?
OVER-ALL DEM GOP IND
Agree 46% 32% 65% 39%

Disagree 50% 65% 30% 56%

As with other questions, the survey’s queries about Saddam’s reputed involvement in 9/11 show Democrats and Republicans holding opposite views. But, just ahead of the 2006 mid-term elections, independents are tracking closer to Democrats than Republicans on these questions.

1. Wasn't it like 70% a few months ago?
There are still a lot of misinformed people out there, but I think we're gaining ground.

10. So, 46% of the people think Bush is lying? That's the way I look at it.
since Bush was on public TV saying that there was no connection between Iraq (Saddam) and 9/11. they surely can't have it both ways. But no Dem is pointing this out.

13. Agreed, especially considering the target audience...
I believe Stephen Colbert referred to them as "backwash".

There are scads of issues we need to frame differently if we want to see opinions change. I figure that about 60% of the population is entrenched, and won't even LOOK at differing viewpoints unless they're presented in a new way.

Framing this as "If you believe Iraq had anything to do with 9/11, you believe that the President is lying" is a great start.

2. Should we expect different from "faith-based voters"?
If you're willing to have faith in the existence of a mythical cloud being, then it's not a big stretch to have faith in the existence of a mythical boogieman or conspiracy.

Essentially, US voters conform to the bell curve...though there might be a positive skew towards the dumbass tail of the distribution.

11. I was disappointed also to see that high of a number.
We had better hope that large a number of people who identified as Democrats are not Republican lite. That would be disappointing also.

4. Republicans must take care of the Patron Saint of Ignorance
I was chatting with an elderly lady in town. It was a cool, calm and collected chat (not the one's I usually have.) We were talking about 9-11 and I asked her if she thought Saddam was involved. She said, "of course." I asked her why and she said, "well, he didn't order the attack, of course." (Not to mention she never answered my question.) "Didn't order the attack?" Straight from the mouth of a liar into the vocabulary of a lemming. The gop success machine at work. No need for truth or honesty.

6. Pfffft! Why do we even bother anymore...
This is why Kerry, a man who was known to have fought Vietnam was considered weak and Bush whom wouldn't set foot in a war, is considered a warrior. People are idiots.

9. It used to be closer to 70%
It only took 5 years to get that number under 50%. :grr:

One must ask if maybe there should be a test to qualify people for voting on the basis of whether or not they know if Saddam was involved in 9/11 or not.

15. Email these quotes to everyone you know
From the 9-11 Commission...

"Nor have we seen evidence indicating that Iraq cooperated with al Qaeda in developing or carrying out any attacks against the United States."

From Bushitler's own mouth...

"We've had no evidence that Saddam Hussein was involved with the September 11 ."
