Poll question: Can you pass the 3rd grade? Take this test and tell us.
I saw this on DailyKos and liked it. Take the test here:
http://www.pibmug.com/files/map_test.swf
and then tell us:
Can you pass the 3rd Grade?

1. In terms of state capitals, yes.
In terms of manual dexterity, no. (Dragging and dropping Delaware proved nearly impossible.)

3. Mine was also the drop and click.
I had all the states right but the drop and click didn't always work.

13. Yes, Delaware really slowed me down
:-)

But I got 48/48. I started playing with "state" puzzles before I entered school.

New Hampshire looks like it is pointing up, like a person with their finger pointing up, saying "I have NEW idea!" (NEW Hampshire, get it?)

21. Dragging and dropping
was a royal PITA. It took me three tries before I could do with with some precision. Delaware was a particularly nasty state to drop properly.

I knew them all, but hated the interface.

25. Yes
I had a real fascination with maps for most of grade school. I can identify all the United States States states, Canadian provinces, Australian States, and most of the countries of the world as a result.
Despite all of this, I have a hard time translating road maps into getting somewhere.

29. The first time it took me a few seconds
to figure out how to work it. lol. So I got 38/48 (ran out of time). The second time obviously I had no problems finishing in the recommended time. I only had problems with some of the smaller east coast states. The rest I'm pretty familiar with. I'd like to see one of those tests with Canadian provinces. :D At least there would be no manual dexterity problems (Well except for maybe PEI :P )

34. Yes, BUT
Edited on Sat Sep-09-06 07:00 AM by W_HAMILTON
I can get confused with "like" states, ie Alabama/Mississippi and New Hampshire/Vermont. I get confused on which is which. Even though with Katrina, and knowing it affected mainly Louisiana and Mississippi, that helps me to remember that Mississippi is the one closest to Louisiana (an easily recognized state).

Also, I had no clue that Wyoming was a "rectangle" state. That was probably the one I got most wrong. I was getting it confused with Wisconsin, and the Minnesota, for some reason. Oh well, I guess that officially makes Wyoming my least known about state :)

Outside of that though, it was pretty easy.

And yet again Alaska and Hawaii get left out. :(

43. Yes - sort of
It took me about 8 tries but I finally passed. I got all of the states but the ones on the east coast without help, then I decided - well surely in third grade I'd at least get a chance to study - that is look of a map of the united states at least once before taking the test - so I looked at a map once and closed it then I got all the states.

I'm better at the states I've travelled to - in general horrible at geography. (live and went to school in the midwest, and have never been to the east coast)

Meg
