NEW ARG POLL-Bush at 36% - "LOWEST POINT OF BUSH PRESIDENCY!!!"
January 23, 2006
George W. Bush's Overall Job Approval Rating Returns to Record Low
As American Turn Less Optimistic About the National Economy

George W. Bush's overall job approval rating has returned to its lowest point in Bush's presidency as Americans again turn less optimistic about the national economy according to the latest survey from the American Research Group. Among all Americans, 36% approve of the way Bush is handling his job as president and 58% disapprove. When it comes to Bush's handling of the economy, 34% approve and 60% disapprove.

Among Americans registered to vote, 37% approve of the way Bush is handling his job as president and 58% disapprove. When it comes to the way Bush is handling the economy, 35% of registered voters approve of the way Bush is handling the economy and 60% disapprove.

A total of 14% of Americans say the national economy is getting better, which is down from 30% in December and 52% say the national economy is getting worse, which is up from 40% in December. When asked about the national economy a year from now, 15% say it will be better, which is down from 28% in December, and 62% say it will be worse, which is up from 39% in December.

Did you catch ThinkProgress last week where the ran a quote of simple Scotty saying that this president doesn't look at polls right next to the recent citing of a poll that suggest support for the NSA program? LOL.

Here’s McClellan on December 13, responding to a poll that found almost 60 percent of Americans do not think Bush has a plan for Iraq:

QUESTION: So what does that say about the hill that you have to climb?

MCCLELLAN: A couple things. Let me first correct you in terms of saying that we don’t ever look at polls. We don’t govern based on polls. The president does not govern based on polls. The president governs based on a clear set of principles and a clear set of beliefs.

Today, responding to why Bush is justified in continuing to conduct an illegal wiretapping program:

MCCLELLAN: I think that clearly the American people strongly support the efforts that we are undertaking to save their lives. I think there actually was a poll last week that said 60 percent — more than 60 percent of the American people support the actions the president is taking to prevent attacks from happening in the first place. That is what this president is committed to doing. This is about saving lives.

I think Puffy McMoonface misread. The poll probably showed that there was 60% disapproval, unless the poll included only Freepers.

6. One caveat, before reading too much into this...
I suspect that the order of questions was random, and that the questions themselves focus solely on finanical/personal economic matters.

I further suspect that if you make the questions about "security" issues (i.e., Terra Terra Terra) and bring up OBL and suchlike, you'll get a few more overall approval points for the Chimp.

Just sayin'.

13. oh dear, me?
I won't be happy until the despicable Chimp's approval numbers are in the Nixonian 20s, and he and Darth Cheney are run out of town on a rail.

I'm just reading the linked report, is all. If you as a pollster focus on economic issues, Bush looks bad (and should.) But for some bizarre reason, there are slightly more Americans who still believe the nonsense about Bush being a "strong leader" when it comes to Terra; and if the poll questions focus on that, you can bet his approval numbers will be a few points higher.

Make sense now?

I took this name years ago because my local chickenshit (and Fundie) school board was trying to build a security bunker for themselves. I'd heard about bunker busting bombs, and I just thought it'd be fun to annoy the school board's supporters by posting in a local forum under that name. And I kept it for DU.

But no, I take no pleasure from seeing bombs actually used to kill people, as (presumably) your Freeper troll does. For the record.

(And while my avatar may seem a tad violent, it's just an answer to something that another Freeper-type forum does to the DU's Skinner. Well, actually, to Skinner's pooch.)

BRAD BLOG: WaPo Reports on Hacked Diebold Machines & Other Electoral Mess!

Edited on Sun Jan-22-06 01:05 AM by BradBlog

Washington Post Reports on Hacked Diebold Machines and Other Electile Dysfunctions in Sunday Paper!
Reports Story of Last Month's Leon County, FL Election Results Flip and Even October's GAO Report on Lack of Security, Accuracy in Electronic Voting Machines!
Better Late Than Never!

We're torn between complaining about Washington Post's delinquency in covering anything to do with our crumbling electoral system and jumping for joy that they've actually filed a credible report on the problems we (and many other "conspiracy theorists", "sore-losers", "tinfoil hat wearers", "anarchists" and "insurgents") have been yelling and screaming about for months -- if not years!

Given our endlessly optimistic nature, however, and the dearth of honest-to-God reporting by the Mainstream Corporate Media on these matters since...well, forever...we'll go ahead, slap a siren on this item, and focus on the "victory" side of things!

In tomorrow's paper, page A6, in a "Special to The Washington Post", Zachary Goldfarb covers the matter of last month's hack of Diebold optical scan machines in Leon County, Florida which completely flipped the results of a mock election test without a trace being left behind.

As well, for the first time, WaPo even discusses some of the findings of the non-partisan Government Accountability Office (GAO) 107-page report on the failures of electronic voting machines which was released last October!...

They've had enough of an economy run entirely by and for oilmen. They're not getting a big enough slice of the pie (though obviously a bigger slice than we are). The lower Bush's numbers, the higher the market will go.

27. Yes
They're one of the big 3 data polling firms. They're bigger than Zogby, by far. ORC, Gallup, ARG (which used to be called ARC, as in corporation, instead of "group"). I know two people who work for them as statisticians. Either they or ORC, have, IMO, the best polling methodology.

And, they tend to take a slightly larger sample set with a bit better stratification based upon pseudorandom number theories.

33. haha, it's time for gas prices to drop again. Wait and see
Funny how Bush's ratings went from a miserable 36 to an almost equally miserable 40 when gas prices got artificially lowered a few months ago, and now his ratings go back the other directions after gasoline gets raised in recent weeks by 30 - 40 cents/gal.

I swear, bushco is artificially fluctuating gasoline prices for sake of winning the 2006 elections. They're simply sitting back and watching what happens in the polls whenever there's a fluctuation in the price of gas. It doesn't take a brain surgeon for them to know that if they can get keep gasoline prices at an obscene price in the near future, they'll be able to lower them just in time to make the wallet-voting assholes forget how tough things are. Then after the election, the oil people will gouge us again until the summer of '08, when they'll mysteriously drop prices again just in time for the presidential vote. It'll be a never ending cycle!

"No change, but no traction. We're gonna need something with more forward thrust."

"Schiavo!"

"We LOST that one, sir, I suspect that if we kick that one up we'll just look like losers."

"Oh my fuggin GOD!" Scrabble scrabble. "Wiretapping."

Blank stare...

"Not really, sir. There's not really a way we can make that stick, there are too many angles to spin it."

"WIRETAPPING IS THE WAY, PEOPLE! TRRRRRSSSTS ON EVERY STREET CORNER, IN EVERY PHONE BOX!"

"Uh, boss, the terrorist issue is no longer publically simple. If we make it wiretapping we're going to have to stop talking in symbols and use rationalisation and our base will get confused and feel dumb. Also, they'll think we're trying to use logic. They hate that shit."

"Okay. Okay. The SUN."

"Uh, sorry sir?"

"Turn it off! Turn it black or something! Nobody's gonna forget that!"

"...uh...boss..."

"There is no way on this good God's earth that I am giving in to those bastard liberals. Do you hear me? NO WAY IN HELL. I'll turn the sun black first. NUKE IT. TURN THE SUN INTO BLACK GLASS."

"...uh..."

"What the fuck is wrong with you? Did someone drop you on the head when you were a kid? I told you to make the sun black."

"Boss, we can't turn the sun black. It's too big. Also, it's hotter than a nuke. The nukes won't make any difference."

Ominous silence.

"Um, sir, I think what he was trying to say was-"

"I think I know what he said. You. Are you American?"

"Uh, yeah, boss."

"You understand that losing is against the American Way?"

"... boss..."

"I don't wanna hear it, boy. When I tell you I want my sun black I don't want no commie liberal pinko faggot obstructionist loser slack-assed shitbird traitor whining bullshit, I expect to take my coffee on the lawn in the dark by 1200 hours. TODAY, people. Do you have a problem comprehending my position?"

"...uh, sir..."

"You're fired. You."

"Yessir!"

"Make my sun black."

"YES, SIR!"

"That's my Government. Go to it, boy. Make me proud."

"YES, SIR!"

"... uh, boss?"

"Why are you still here?"

55. I see that the soft votes;
Those that went against b*** in the fall then went for him again when gas came down are against him again. I can imagine that those heating oil and natural gas bills are hitting the heartland as we speak.

66. He better get Bernanke
to fire up the printing presses to inflate the market (both housing and stock). The dismal performance of the DOW over the last week was probably the main cause of this little downturn in *'s polling #'s.

Can't wait for scandals indictments to kick in to play, Halliburton knowingly feeding our troops contaminated water for over a year and now scramble to just take care of the cover-up while spewing; support our troops slogans -- scum, nothing less!
