Pelosi Slams 'Tawdry' GOP Attempt to Suppress Millions of Votes
Pelosi slams 'tawdry' GOP attempt to suppress millions of votes with Voter ID bill

On the House floor earlier today, Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi blasted what she called a "tawdry" GOP attempt to suppress millions of votes with a Voter ID bill, RAW STORY has learned.

"Though the right to vote is the foundation of our democracy, the bill we debate today would in effect disenfranchise millions of American voters: the elderly, African Americans, Asian Americans, Latinos, Native Americans, people with disabilities; and the list goes on," said Pelosi.

...................

"And that is why it is so sad to see this bill come here to the floor today, especially named the Federal Election Integrity Act," said Pelosi. "Integrity, it's not about integrity."

"It's about a tawdry attempt by Republicans to suppress the votes of millions of American citizens," Pelosi continued. "That is not integrity."

1. McDermott hit it on the head earlier today
As he said, this is a bill to deny the right to vote to 7 million people. Their crime? Not voting Republican :eyes:

7. "Tawdry"? That's the best she could do?

and is "that is not integrity" a kinder gentler way of saying what the rest of us say: These dirty filthy corrupt lying bastards have stolen 2 elections already and are about to do it again. Something must be done, and NOW !!!! "

But hey Nancy and Harry Reid, just keep up with your "that's not nice."

11. Looks like a Catch-22 in Arizona
As far as photo-ID goes, Arizona does not accept a U.S. Passport because it does not show current address (pretty sure about that, I haven't dug out mine) and it won't accept my Birth Certificate since it does not have address or picture. The bill that just passed the house now means that they can't accept a driver's license since it does not require proof of citizenship. Looks like voting in Arizona is going to get complicated.

Oh, and my bank statements and other bills go to a PO Box, so most of the alternative ID's required by Arizona won't work either. I requested an early ballot and plan to take it to the county recorder's office.

12. Arizona?
I had to have seventy-brazillion pieces of ID to get my driver's license here in AZ. I had to prove citizenship. The whole effing process took 6 months to sort out (because I was coming from a 'border state' of course -- you know. Michigan. Pretty scary.)

BUT. My DL is now good until I turn 65. That's almost 30 years from now. So I wonder if that has anything to do with it... Anyway, I hate that damn law for AZ.

16. Here's a response - can you answer this?
"They shouldn't ask for ID? So I could go vote as someone else or someone from another precinct could go to my voting place and vote as me before I got there? That doesn't seem right."
