Chavez says Bush 'alcoholic' and 'sick man'

NEW YORK (AFP) - Venezuela's President Hugo Chavez launched a new personal attack against President George W. Bush, calling the US leader an "alcoholic" and a "sick man" during a tour of the New York district of Harlem.

Speaking while walking in a Harlem street, Chavez told a group of passers-by: "Bush is an alcoholic, a sick man with a lot of hang-ups."

"He walks like John Wayne," declared the left-wing Venezuelan leader. "He doesn't know anything about politics, he got there because of Daddy." Bush's father, George Bush, was also a US president.

1. Has Chimpy ever said anything about Chavez in the past?
It may not have been flattering.

I'm afraid Chavez is going to start looking good to the rest of the world, if not to us here in the US.

Chimpy cannot be criticized on US/UN soil, but that will never stop a freeper or two from alleging it ain't fair to dis Chimpy but OK for him to send assassins to assassinate the Venezuelan President on Ven. soil (was that Chimpy, or Pat Robertson, though?)

18. I wonder if now we will be treated to outrage by prominent Dems
I have really pondered this Rangle and now Pelossi *thug* comments thing all afternoon and have come to a conclusion.

At first I thought yeah well maybe the people who say they did the right thing are right...maybe they have to distance themselves for political expediency etc.

I have done a 360 from that...I disagreed with Rangle's comments but worse IMO is...there was zero reason for Pelossi to come out and call Chavez a thug.
What's wrong with "Mr Chavez's comments are his own and they don't dignify a response from this audience"

Even the bush admin wasn't DUMB ENOUGH to respond to him...but no, what do the Dems do immediately? REACT and try to take cover even though Chavez is NOT a member of the Democratic party-- and before someone says *they had to* I say to you that strategy hasn't worked for the last 6 years.

Calling a foreign visiting leader who controls the oil that Chavez does "a thug" wasn't too bright of Ms Pelossi IMO furthermore whether he is a thug or not...he was elected and the bush regime was caught backing a coup to over throw him in 2001 (yet another issue that was ignored by our wonderful party and left to go unchallenged like everything else)

All I can see in my head is congress gathered signing songs after 911--look at all the ass kissing and gutlessness that happened during that time period.

They gave bush a free pass then and continue to do it now.

I would just once like to see something not spun in the favor of the bush reich.

comment. They both are sounding like Leiberman when he told the dems that * was going to be our President for three more years and we need to work with him. With opposition like this the GOP doesn't have to do much. They could have disagreed and said that it was embarrassing that the leader of another country felt that he could say this in front of a world body, it's a symptom of the disrespect America now has especially since Chavez was applauded not booed. No one would have done this to Clinton.

"it was embarrassing that the leader of another country felt that he could say this in front of a world body, it's a symptom of the disrespect America now has especially since Chavez was applauded not booed."

That is exactly what I thought should be said but no...they choose this bullshit route instead (as if anyone in their districts would have been offended by such a sentimnent)

Pelossi's comments are on strings here somewhere...I think they are in GD.

If Chavez had dissed a Democrat would ANY Republican repudiate those comments??? Never in your life. They would have said 'See what animosity and contempt (fill in the blank Democrat) incites!'

Why are Republicans so good at capitalizing on EVERYTHING, and Democrats flop around like a caught fish? Show some damn backbone! We could take a lesson in ballsy-ness (is that a word?).

Chavez's comments bring to mind when Mario Cuomo called Dan Quayle 'Danny the Cabin Boy.' Remember?

The people only people who even know about Chavez are the political junkies. The right wingers hate him, and the Left, the DEMOCRATIC BASE, loves him. Why pick a fight with your own base over an issue the average American isn't even aware of? I'm begining to think old Glover was right, the Democratic Party apparatus is so used to losing at this point that they would rather remain the minority Party.

OLBERMANN: The Bronze tonight to President Hugo Chavez of Venezuela. Addresses the U.N. today, refers to President Bush as the devil, says, “It still smells of sulfur today.”

Mr. Chavez, you‘re only making Pat Robertson look good.

Our runner up, Jon H. Eipp of Novato, California, during his trial at the local courthouse, accused of stealing computers, he stole the computers at the local courthouse. He has now been convicted twice.

But the winner, Bill Orally. In an interview with Barbara Walters he tells her, “The FBI came in and warned me and a few other people at FOX News that al Qaeda had us on a death list.”

Hey, fella! Were they targeting you or where the just expecting you to help?

And, yes, I guess you and Keith are in the same boat. It's a shame too, just like with Jon Stewart, I need to learn that just because a media personality sounds good 99% of the time, it doesn't mean they actually are. GE wouldn't put Keith on TV if he actually wanted a substantial change in the status quo, no matter what my pathetic yearning for a savior might lead me to believe.

And it's just silly. Here are facts. Bush led this country into a deceptive and disasterous war. He ignored advice contrary to his agenda. He has systematically attempted, and to a considerable extent, worked on dismantling civil liberties in this country. He has flauted laws. He has promoted and endorsed torture. He has sent people to foreign nations to be tortured. And the list goes on. Those are facts. Personal insults are simply silly and juvenile. Now do you see the difference between fact and opinion. I'd bet not.

I happen to be close to a lockdown treatment center, where tons of "sick" people pass thru, either on their way to or as an alternative to prison. They happen to be wildly cheering the "truth" that was uttered today, by a foreign guy most of them have never even heard of.

The truth is...most get ostracized, punished, and ridiculed throughout life for having the very same disease our prez is afflicted with, but the right-wing sees fit to elevate this guy and all of his twisted little hang-ups to a position of unheard-of power. Over the world.

Doesn't seem fair, does it.

of the word, that I've ever known, read and seen...and defined from a professional stand point & analysis as well. And what most know to be "sick" is exactly what he is...Actions speak louder than words....But you choose to quibble...Why on moral grounds? While most would call his actions, his lust for torture, his disregard for human life, his glee when executing, etc. - as SICK...that is fact, as well as his alcoholism!!

Yes indeed...Bush is an "Alcoholic and sick" FACT!

should have their own head examined and their license reviewed.

I'm not saying Bush's actions are right - they aren't. But unless you have statements from his own personal psychiatrist, you don't know what his mental health is. Games are easily played and facades created - you don't know what really goes on in his mind.

59. 'Bout time the statesmen of the world say "Yankee imperialist, go home."
With leaders everywhere cowering under the aggression of the USA and entire nations of people suffering and dying at the hands of our "coalition" and allies, seems as tho it's time someone expresses the world opinion, don't ya think?

then they broke out in applause! Gives me hope, actually, that the world hasn't quite gone to hell in a handbasket, yet!

38. For a Party that is supposedly non-lockstep,
The Democratic Party seems surprisingly unified on Chavez, and the SILENCE about the danger of BBV.
The Democrats don't seem to have any difficulty getting these Talking Points into the MSM.

If you want more information on Chavez and the Bolivarian Reforms in Venezuela, watch this Palast video:

52. Chavez is a fraud.
I've been saying that Bush is the devil, been calling him an alcoholic, and saying he is a sick man for years, but no one gives me credit.

The Chavez comes and says it, and everyone's talking about it.

Chaves is six years late to the party

But nowhere is Bush referred to as a "right-wing" leader. You don't suppose this reporter is biased, do you?

Bush is an alcoholic, a sick man with a lot of hang-ups

Wow, Chavez is 3 for 3!

78. Just Bolsters My Reasons For Not Liking Him: His Immature Taunting Tactics
Edited on Thu Sep-21-06 04:16 PM by OPERATIONMINDCRIME
As long as he keeps employing this high school back and forth taunting I'm not going to take him seriously. I wouldn't take any world leader seriously that engaged in such things. That right there is one of the main reasons why I think he's a POS.

He is a political leader and if he wants to show he has integrity and respectability he should act like it. He could get the same points across in a professional way without resorting to childish taunting tactics. He doesn't have to call him the devil. He could simply just tell the truth about the errors, criminalities and hugely misguided ideals of the administration's decisions. He doesn't have to taunt him personally, he could state the reasons why his policies are failures and how his lack of experience is a contributing factor.

There are many ways to be anti-bush while not having to stoop to a republican level of attack. I'd maybe be able to have the beginnings of respect for him if he engaged the situation in such ways as opposed to taunting. Course, he would have to stop treating Iran and N.Korea like peace makers as well, but that's another story.

100 gallons of fuel oil for this winter. People are elated. Makes you wonder what the hell is wrong with our own country that they can't help our most vulnerable people. Gas costs $5 a gallon in the Bush.

87. Are these the words of a sick man?
"There's an old saying in Tennessee I know it's in Texas, probably in Tennessee that says, fool me once, shame on shame on you. Fool me you can't get fooled again."
-- Dubya: Nashville, Tenn., Sept. 17, 2002

"There's no doubt in my mind that we should allow the world worst leaders to hold America hostage, to threaten our peace, to threaten our friends and allies with the world's worst weapons."
-- Dubya: South Bend, Ind., Sept. 5, 2002

"There's no question that the minute I got elected, the storm clouds on the horizon were getting nearly directly overhead."
