I guess this is what passes as an intellectual discussion in Freeperland. What's really nauseating is that we have to share the same country with these complete wackjobs.

And who are you to say that my prayer language is not a recognizable language? I could be speaking Farsi and you would never know.
btw, my brother-in-law was praying in tongues once when a man from Asia who was visiting the church came up to him and asked him how long he had been speaking the native language of his homeland.

A Pentecostal neighbor told me when I was a child that I was going to hell because I hadn't spoken in an unknown tongue. My dad read Acts:2 with me and explained it just as you did. However, as I grew older I wanted to know more so I studied some Bible Commentaries, and in 1 Cor. 14, it explains it pretty straight forward. Tongues is a gift some have to communicate with God spiritually...there is nothing wrong with that! Accordingly, if you are using "tongues" in church, you should have an interpreter there so all could understand.

If you can't handle praying in tongues, then there is no way you could handle prophetic ministry and healing. Such a shame that you decide to limit God.

9. I spoke in Tongues from 9-12 years old
My mother was convinced I was possessed by demons... I got drug from church to church. We did traditional Pentecostal, 4 Square Gospelist (Oh, and the 'born again' Navajo tent).... I actually believed all the stuff for awhile. I think I spoke in tongues for the same reason waterboarded prisoners gave false info - desperation.

It turns out the demon was my nasty tendency towards RATIONAL THINKING.


They are mentally ill - they NEED to feel superior to others due to their personal feelings of inferiority. If they have God speaking through them they are SUPERIOR!!!!!! I am torn between pity and LOATHING.:puke: :mad: :puke: :mad:

14. Jesus of the Stained Glass Window
I've heard liberal Protestant ministers rail against "Jesus of the Stained Glass Window." The idea is much like what you've expressed -- i.e., the narcissistic fixation on "God is looking at ME," and a perception that Jesus is that white guy with the beatific face and beard, pictured in the stained glass windows of European cathedrals.

It's much easier to worship that guy in the window, than confront the challenges inherent in the idea that the spirit is IN YOU.

22. When I was a little boy my neighbors took me to a Pentecostal
Church. I'll never forget during the sermon the brothers and sisters (that's what the church called them) holding up their arms and babbling some kind of crazy shit. Even as a little boy I was smart enough to realize these people were nuts.
