Dear Friend:
I read the excerpt of the National Intelligence Estimate, and three things struck me:

First, the Iraq War is a bigger contributor to terrorism than press reports of the estimate let on.

Second, there is no mention of Israel’s ongoing occupation of Palestinian territory, a huge impetus to terrorism.

And third, the intelligence estimate implies that “leftists” and “anti-globalization” activists are akin to terrorists!

I go into the details in an article I just posted on our website.

Please feel free to send it around.

I’d also like to draw your attention to a posting by Amitabh Pal, our managing editor, who wrote a beautiful piece about a recent visitor to our office here in Madison, Wisconsin.

Thanks for visiting our site!

Sincerely,

Matthew Rothschild

P.S. If you're in the Madison area, please come hear Howard Zinn speak on Thursday, October 5th. The great historian and activist will be receiving a Lifetime Achievement Award from the University of Wisconsin Haven’s Center at the Orpheum at 216 State Street here in Madison. His lecture starts at 7:00 p.m. and admission is free. Additionally, there will be a reception for sponsors of the event. For more information, or to become a sponsor, please click here.

Last Thursday, President Bush and members of the Senate struck a deal. They dealt away America's commitment to fundamental human rights principles.

This deal is a betrayal of the America we believe in. No human rights activist can remain on the sidelines. Call your Senator to oppose these dangerous provisions. We are days away from action in Congress on a proposal to:

Abandon the rule of law and give the President the freedom to interpret the Geneva Conventions any way he sees fit.

Call 1 800 AMNESTY and our operators will connect you to your official. Ask your Senators and Representative to stand firm in defense of human rights.
