More on Foley scandal- This could bring down GOP House speaker Hassert
Edited on Fri Sep-29-06 11:56 PM by KelleyKramer
GOP House page board chair may have helped cover-up Foley scandal
http://americablog.blogspot.com/2006/09/gop-house-page-board-chair-may-have.html

There is great coverage about this developing scandal on http://americablog.blogspot.com/

This could end up bringing down the GOP speaker of the House

That means during an election year, the majority of the GOP house leadership would have resigned and many are (or will be) under indictments ranging from bribery and corruption to gay pedophilia.

And its not just the top GOP leadership.. how many Republican committee chairmen will be under criminal indictment or already sitting in prison on election day???

The last few elections the Republicans have run on terror, terror, fear.. we will protect you. Christian values, and Gay Hating amemndments..

But in just the last few days we have had ..leaking of the NIE report showing more terror attacks, the torture bill, the Abramoff/Ralph Reed contacts with the WH, and a gay pedophile scandal... that should eliminate all three GOP election issues listed above.

It seems the whole house of cards could be falling in.

Edit: Changed thread title

"This could end up bringing down the GOP speaker of the House" from your text.

Great headline, just a thought.

11. Changed it

Thanks for the suggestion

And I hope folks follow the links, this seems to have been fairly well-known and they did NOTHING but cover it up, and at the highest levels of the Republican party.

And who has the power to make him resign even if it is in session?...

Find some criminal law he broke, please. The speculation is far in ahead of the legal liabilities here.

23. Reports of a gay pedophile predator..

Umm, I'm not a lawyer, but I believe that if someone you have oversight in your job position and its reported to you that they are engaging in gay sexual conversations with minors.. are you not required to report it to the authorities?

Thats not to mention that we are talking about the top leaders of the United States GOP congress.

And they let this sick person continue to prey on minors for at least another year.

26. It's actually better that the house is in recess
If he's back home, he cannot just run down the hall at the house and call apress conference. If he calls on in his own district, he appears scared, so he cannot respond all that well.. He needs to have people following him around on his campaign trail, bringing up the pedophile coverup at EVERY speech he gives..Make the coach play defense :)

19. He will do several things at once
one, he will deny any evidence.

two, he will say its a democratic setup, a sting operation, where Foley is the victim.

three, he will say its not a big deal.

fourh, he will tell listeners that it is Democrats and the ACLU who encourage and support pedophiles.

fifth, he will compare it to the unfair attacks on people like Tom Delay to show how mean those Democrats are

and sixth, he will say that this is an attempt by the media to cover up and distract from all those Democratic scandals, like William Jefferson (several months ago) and, uh, uh, yeah...

Seriously, I can't recall any Congress with such an impressive collection of crooks, sleazebags, hypocrits, cynics, incompetenents, war profiteers, religious whack-jobs,and sadistic war criminals in such a position of power. The GOP has morphed into an organized crime syndicate.

believed they were above it all. ALL! Who is responsible for sparking that arrogance? Who led? Who persuaded them all that they could be arrogant because they were going to get away with it all?

Think about the arrogance of Allen talking in front of a crown he could be arrogant with while a young adult citizen is targeted with a slur. He must have been as 100% sure of himself in front that crowd as he is in front of the Republican podium.

Then there is the arrogance of thinking they could get away with stealing votes.

8. Stunning isnt it..

We have seen the corruption for years, and while that has been more than anything before, its still not too hard to believe that politicians would be liars and bribe taking criminals.

But the open support of torture. And now the twisted sick gay pedophile cover-up.

Jon Stewart has had an easy job the last 5 years, they basically write the material for him.

But with this.. you cant even bring yourself to laugh at it, its too ugly.

Yes, you are right, and the arrogance that bred this is stunning

9. Shimkus (R-IL), Boehner(R-OH), Alexander (R-LA), and maybe
Blunt (R-MO) could be vulnerable too. I wonder who the Democrats are that are running against them in 38 days.

From http://www.rollcall.com/issues/1_1/breakingnews/15259-1.html :

"Foley Interviewed About Page Last Year; Democrats Not Told

Ethics Inquiry Ordered

By John Bresnahan and Susan Davis; Roll Call Friday, Sept. 29; 10:58 pm

At least four Republican House Members, one senior GOP aide and a former top officer of the House were aware of the allegations about Foley that prompted the initial reporting regarding his e-mail contacts with a 16-year-old House page. They include: Majority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio), National Republican Congressional Committee Chairman Tom Reynolds (N.Y.) and Reps. Rodney Alexander (R-La.) and John Shimkus (R-Ill.), as well as a senior aide to Speaker Dennis Hastert (R-Ill.) and former Clerk of the House Jeff Trandahl.

Boehner strongly denied media reports late Friday night that he had informed Hastert of the allegations, saying "That is not true." Reynolds refused to comment. Shimkus, who chairs the page board, and Trandahl, who administered the program, met with Foley in 2005 after learning of Foleys e-mail exchange with the former page by Alexander. Shimkus released a detailed statement Friday night.

House sources said that Foley denied any improper sexual activity when confronted by Shimkus and Trandahl. Their information only included some August 2005 e-mails that contained no references to sex or other improper behavior, and not the other messages that have been reported by ABC News. According to a senior House GOP leadership aide, Hasterts office was informed of the interview shortly after it occurred, but Hastert himself was not told.

Rep. Dale Kildee (D-Mich.), who serves on the page board, was never told of the interview with Foley. "I became aware of it this afternoon when came by my office. I think we should have had a page meeting right away," Kildee said, referring to last year's discovery of Foley's e-mails. When asked if was upset about being excluded, Kildee said yes, adding, "I've been on the page board for 20 years.""

10. Thats not just any "four Republican House Members " either!

The article says " four Republican House Members " but those include...

Majority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio)
National Republican Congressional Committee Chairman Tom Reynolds
a senior aide to Speaker Dennis Hastert (R-Ill.)
two other GOP congessmen, and
Clerk of the House Jeff Trandahl.

And the denial/cover story keeps changing. This is getting curiouser and curiouser by the hour

Thanks for posting the article!

C'mon people, Katherine Harris for Senate? They knew, they ignored the known cancer, and kids were fucked over because of it.

31. If a media feeding frenzy gets ignited over this, Lisa
is going to be turning away free media coverage left and right--probably a big change in what she's used to. IMO she's Laesch's most crucial asset. Their website says they've raised only $100,000.

IMO, a media feeding frenzy that would force Hastert to resign within the next 38 days is Laesch's only hope.

Is Blagojevich(sp?) still Governor? If Hastert stonewalls for 38 days, even if he's forced to resign later, and a Democratic Governor picks an interim Rep, it would never be Laesch.
