New Al-Queda video shows Atta and Ziad Jarrah in 2000
The laughing 9/11 bombers
Exclusive film of suicide pilots at Bin Laden’s HQ

FILM of the ringleader of the September 11 hijackers reading his “martyrdom” will inside Afghanistan at Osama Bin Laden’s headquarters has emerged five years after the Al-Qaeda outrage.

It is the first time that a videotape has appeared of Mohammed Atta — who flew an American Airlines plane into the north tower of the World Trade Center — at a training camp in Afghanistan. It fills in a significant gap in the timing of the build-up to the attacks on the United States.

Dates on the tape show Atta was filmed on January 18, 2000, together with Ziad Jarrah, the pilot of United Airlines flight 93, which crashed in Pennsylvania after the passengers apparently stormed the flight deck.

The Sunday Times has obtained a copy of the video through a previously tested channel. The tape has no soundtrack and a US source said lip readers had tried without success to decipher what was being said.

Despite the deadly tasks the men had been assigned, they appear in high spirits, laughing and smiling in front of the camera. Only when Atta, with an AK-47 propped on a wall beside him, reads a document marked in Arabic “the will”, does he become solemn. Both are well groomed, without the haggard appearance of the identity mugshots issued after September 11.

In Norway this translates to:
"The paper (Sunday Times) published a hour long videotape where the hijackers reads their testamet. Sources both in yhe US and inside the Al-Queda network has said the tape is authentic."

This is so wrong on so many levels.
The clips has no sound. The US authorities AND Al-Queda are falling over themselves to prove the authenticity.
Dates on cameras can easily be faked, just change the clock.

But why no sound? Without sound these proves nothing, and if it wasn't possible to read their lips, how do they know their 'wills' was read?

"The Sunday Times has obtained a copy of the video through a previously tested channel."

Like the al-Queda video autofeed?

1. New - 2000 - Hello, it is 2006
This isn't new, it is just the right wing releasing this shit during an election.

That old line doesn't work here anymore.

3. Is that true?
You've seen this before? Now, that would be an interesting fact to rub in with the Norw. media ;-)

2. well it's not like we would believe it if it was hand delivered to
our homes by bin ladin himself. That said, one of your questions is answered in the piece - they were looking at a document called the will. So they apparently were able to read the writing on the document.

4. In the middle of one clip where Jarrah apparently reads his will
He breaks into laughter, like he's reading something funny.

It is high quality video the article says - but no sound. But the picture is clear, so I can't understand why it could be lip read. Surely arabic must be just as easy to lip read as English. Is that the next tier in this info-bomb, I wonder? Suddenly a translation appears, confirming the story?

5. the video is very "strange", read here
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20061001/ap_on_re_eu/sept11_video_11

"It is highly unlikely that al-Qaida wanted the material to be released in this manner, and it is not consistent with any previous release," he said (Ben Venzke, head of the Virginia-based IntelCenter).

Diaa Rashwan, an Egyptian expert on militant groups, said he found it strange that the cameraman focused not only on bin Laden but also on his audience. He said normally al-Qaida videos of bin Laden just focus on him.

"Was this a video by al-Qaida or by a security agency?" Rashwan asked. "I have never seen such a video."

6. Thanks, tocqueville
Good find :hi:
It is recently discovered, then?

I also thought this was strange, it seems construed in a way.

Here's from the same article:

"It said sources from al-Qaida and the United States had confirmed the video's authenticity on condition of anonymity."

There seems to be little difference between the Al-Queda and the US govt. these days. Did they confirm in a joint statement?
