"People are more upset about this than the Woodward book"
David Gergen just said this on CNN - about Foley.

He also said "they get this".

Now who out there thought we would all be talking about the Woodward book this morning?

2. Gergen was gurgling on Repuke talking points
He was not convincing... there are way too many Republican lies to keep straight.
The collapse is inevitable... and imminent.

11. Excellent description of Gergen's performance
When asked what he thought about Tony Snow's remark that these were "naughty e-mails" (even Soledad looked repulsed by that description), Gergen indeed gurgled blah-blah, appropriate..blah-blah.

The gop is trying to downplay this as "naughty" behavior, meanwhile mothers, and I imagine fathers too, are outraged. Everyone is thinking what they would do if a fifty something year old was doing this to their 15 or 16 year old child.

3. Everyone already knew Bush was a liar. That is not news
Some people just didn't want to talk about it.

18. Indeed Moms should be PISSED at republicans
(and Dads too)
If Republicans are not trying to bed your kids.
then they are sending em off to die in their stupid wars.

Republicans are clearly bad for family.

Who thinks they threw Foley to the wolves to *distract* from Woodward's book?

All things being equal, which is more important: war crimes or stalking?

7. I wondered about that too
I was thinking maybe they just saw those first emails that came out, that weren't that bad. Then the IMs came out and it was too late to pull back.

Time to throw Woodward to the wolves, guys. LOL

9. That is absurd. Throw Soccer and Defense Moms to the wind?
to distract from Woodward?

When Woodward was just repeating the fucking obvious?

16. But this lets 'Licans intone, in somber and disapproving tones . . .
"When Republicans are caught in improprieties, they have the decency to resign. When Democrats are caught (Clinton, Studds, Frank) they shamelessly hold on to their offices . . ."

17. We know the answer to that...but...
Stalking resonates with more people. So many of the true believers in this regime will continually to believe that it can do no wrong, no matter what. Just like their fearless leader, they refuse to admit any mistakes. But we all know it's the voters in the middle who matter -- those voters who begrudgingly may have voted for this regime with the thought that it was the lesser of two evils. They're the ones who really get it & will vote these bums out. (I've actually heard that line from many people as I've walked in parades with Dan Seals, our great IL-10 candidate for Congress.)

10. I'm talking about Woodward today . . .
Woodward Comes Out From Inside the White House on Iraq (10-2-2006)

"Bob Woodward has stepped forward and presented us with the naked truth that he gleaned from the White House's own manipulating prattle. It's satisfying to see the propagandists that surround the president ambushed and exposed by yet another insider. It's even more encouraging to watch them lash out at one of their (former) stalking-horse apologists as he dissembles from his own fawning exaggerations of Bush's prowess in the contrived 'terror war'."

12. You know, people have always said
that Rove was some sort of genius, but I've always disagreed. Much of what he's done the last few years has backfired big time. Mission Accomplished certainly comes to mind. So, if he did "out" Foley to distract from other "bigger" news, it's backfired.

Many people now accept Bush is dishonest and lied to get us into Iraq. The polls back that up. But to discover the Republican Leadership -- which has been stridently anti-gay in order to protect Families and "the children" -- has been covering up a Congressman writing inappropriate IMs and emails to underage male Pages (in addition to doing God knows what else in his empty office afterhours), that could really, really hurt an already embattled GOP in the upcoming Elections.

If Rove did plan this to distract from Woodward or whatever, then Rove may be one of the best things the Democrats have right now.

14. Well I am sure it came out to hit the Woodward book.
Bush needed something so he throw this guy to the wolf. They were just sitting on it to use when they needed it. Any one can see that.

20. True now we have two things going. Usually one drops off
the news. And sex usually takes top place, as we all know. We are to for get that now Bush can pick up us and put us in jail with no 'get our of jail card' and he really does not know what he is doing in Iraq. Plus he does not tell us the truth. One has to wonder if his 'moral' base will think of any of this?

21. A P.S. we know every thing is about Bush and his protection
One of the reasons I think Powell went. He was better liked than Bush. He had to be put in a bad place and go down. Top dog has to be Bush and it also make Carl more important.
