World War 2 vs Iraq War
It was either here-or MSNBC news column where it was reported that the Iraq war has now exceeded WW2 in length of time..Can anyone verify this?? I believe it was Senator Kennedy who brought this to attention.

1. I don't think so. WWW 2 covered roughly from 12/41 to
May 45 (Europe) or August 45 (Japan). What people do point out from time to time is that Osama hasn't been caught in a time greater than either of those victories, five years from 9/11 to now vs. 4 years for WW2.

5. I think...
..the reference is from our "declaration" of war. That was in 1941. From then to 1945 makes the time period closer.

3. A case could be made that the Iraq "war" started in 1990.
You remember. "Desert Storm" where we rescued "democracy" in Kuwait. We've been at war, to some extent, with Iraq ever since.

7. All the same war really
Every war creates the next war. Whatever the consequences of war A are, end up being the reasons to fight war B. You could probably go back through history and connect basically every war. Sort of like the Kevin Bacon game, just, you know, with ever increasing scale of warfare.

6. From Pearl Harbor to V-J Day
Edited on Mon Oct-02-06 10:26 AM by tk2kewl
December 7, 1941 to August 15, 1945 = 3 years, 9 months, 8 days

If you count from September 11, 2001 we have been at the WOT for longer than WW2.

If you are just talking about Iraq we come up a bit short:
March 20, 2003 to October 2, 2006 = 3 years, 6 months, 12 days

8. Another measure to consider - D day to surrender of Germany took 11 months
D Day, June 6, 1944, to the surrender of the Germany on 07 may 1945 was accomplished in a whopping eleven months.

10. It appears that was the target dates for WW2 in the article..accordingly-
the bombing of Iraq was 3/20/03 and we just past 3 years-6 months..so either way we shake it..it's looking BAD.

9. Thanks for the replies..I will
find the exact article and give the stats..Hopefully..
Remember, we are talking about "declared war" in WW 2..to 44..I think the accuracy of the article is to be taken in context..Let me start searching.
