Larisa Alexdrandovna: Republican Torture Laws Will Live in History
From AlterNet
Dated Monday October 2

Republican Torture Laws Will Live in History
The recent terror detainee laws passed by the Republican Congress will define the Bush era for centuries to come.
By Larisa Alexandrovna

If we learned anything from the Nuremberg trials it is that citizens are responsible for what their government does in their name. The right wing of Congress, which has shed any last vestige of being anything remotely conservative in substance or American in spirit, has, like a deranged peacock, proudly shown the world that it can and did "happen here." The passing of the pro-torture bill is a full handover of everything democratic into the arms of fascism.

Before Bush has even signed his pro-torture, anti-humanity bill into law, his legal framer and torture apologist Alberto Gonzales is already cautioning the judiciary:

"Attorney General Alberto Gonzales, who is defending President Bush's anti-terrorism tactics in multiple court battles, said Friday that federal judges should not substitute their personal views for the president's judgments in wartime."

Instead of continuing with this farce called checks and balances, why not simply declare the "It has happened here" amendment for the Congress to rubber stamp and the president to tack on to the Constitution as a pre-emptive measure against dictatorial power.

Keep this kicked and recommended for Lala.

I propose that we adopt Bella Maryanovsky as the DU Domestic War on Terror Victim.

3. Let's give Democrats their share of the credit
at least those who seem to think subservience to the President trumps human rights.

4. It could be titled the
'Republican Torture Laws' if the dems had just stuck together. It's bipartisan unfortunately just like the IWR they can say that the dems voted for it too.

6. I think Neoconservative Torture Laws would be more appropriate
Edited on Mon Oct-02-06 11:23 AM by Jack Rabbit
The neoconservatives are a special breed of Republicans -- fascist and imperialist -- from whom the GOP must distance itself.

They may not be as brutal as the Nazis of 65 years ago, but they occupy than same niche in the world environment. They have chosen an enemy and tar all other enemies, no matter how unrelated, with that one. That is how Saddam, who had nothing to do with the September 11 and had his own reasons to fear jihadists, became a "terrorist." That is how you and I will become "terrorists", if it should come to that. They invade nations at will, making up reasons if they have none, and don't care what anybody beyond their narrow political base at home thinks about it.

They came for Bella and it is important that we speak up for her. Or they will come for us, as when they came Rev. Niemoller, there will be no one to speak for us.

5. Scotts should come out with a Constitution toilet paper. We might
as well get to do what the WH and Congress are doing to the Constitution.

10. Goebbels on Hitler vs. Boykin on Bush
I see no difference between this statement:

"We have a feeling that Germany has been transformed into a great house of God, including all classes, professions and creeds, where the Führer as our mediator stood before the throne of the Almighty." -- Joseph Goebbels

and the one below:

Why is this man in the White House? The majority of Americans did not vote for him. I tell you this morning that he's in the White House because God put him there for a time such as this."

--Lt. General William G. Boykin

14. I just visited a web page that lists many of the connections...
between international neo-Nazis and the perpetrators of 9/11 together with the historical right-wing roots of Third Reich connections with the Muslim brotherhood, and their banking operations in Germany, Switzerland and the Saudis. One would wonder, then, why doesn't the Administration bring this information to light to support their definition for the danger of an "Islamo-fascist" takeover? Possibly because it would also bring to light all the overlapping interests of the current administration (including Henry Kissinger as well well as WACL and Aryan Nation involvement) and possible neo-Nazi influence in preventing FBI investigations of key players? I'm not sure if discovering this was a good thing, or if it means our nation has deeper problems with pro-fascist forces than the media would ever lead us to believe. Is David Emory a legitimate source for information? http://afasummary.blogspot.com/
