Israel's Lebanon bombardment visible from space
Mon Oct 2, 10:04 AM ET

STAR CITY, Russia (AFP) - Israel's recent bombardment of Lebanon was clearly visible with "the naked eye" from space, a Russian cosmonaut based at the time on the international space station has said.

"Of course it was visible. You know, all negative human activities, in particular military operations, are immediately visible from space," said cosmonaut Pavel Vinogradov, during a press conference at the Star City space facility, just outside of Moscow. Vinogradov was speaking three days after returning to Earth following a six-month ISS mission.

"Of course we saw the fires, especially when it was a big city, it was very easily visible even without our instruments. You could see it with the naked eye," Vinogradov continued.

"We took many photographs of the Lebanese coast and of Israel, especially during that period," he said referring to the fighting in July and August that left around 1,200 Lebanese citizens and 162 Israelis dead.

1. How utterly sad - The only thing worse is watching your own
city from space with the nakend eye. Israel got away with it all here inthe U.S.

2. what does darfur look like?
Sudan, Somalia, Zimbabwe, Congo, and on and on, failed states entirely,
but it probably doesn't look like much from space when people starve.

4. Lebanon was a U.S. sponsored tragedy. But yes, the other places
do deserve some attention as well. Maybe we can divert money from warplanes sent to foreign countries and give more resources to Africa.
