Could it be a GOP fissure coup?
Could it be possible somehow that someone inside unleashed this as a takedown / takeover?

Is the Christian right making their move to clear the way for Frist?

2. The question was asked elsewhere...CIA coup?
They're the guys with the keys to the skeleton closet.

Also maybe some of the old-style FBI that don't like the things that have been happening there.

7. Somewhere in the crevices of my
mind I remember something about Woodward having something to do with the CIA or some intelligence agency, from the Navy, before he was a journalist. Maybe this is the revenge of the spooks.

3. I doubt that, I highly doubt that. They don't like them book-learnin'
types even the ones who spout their crap. They want one like old bush.

5. haha....
.... it would take a million bulldozers to make a way for Frist. he is the singular most uninspiring politician I have ever had to yawn to.

Frist is history. He's going nowhere but back home.

A lot of folks here are acting like the Republicans sprung this scandal. That is patently ridiculous. It's not that they are above dirty dealings, it's just that this is the worst possible time and there is little if anything for them to gain.

I can't get a clear picture of exactly HOW this got on the front burner, there are lots of theories, but I'd bet $10 to your donut Reps had nothing to do with it - it will be a nightmare for them.

6. this is just like the first Watergate
it is an internal party coup

the next generation of repukes (probably overt fascists) have partnered with CIA/national "security" agents to overthrow the neocons.
