I can't believe the double standard here
Why is it that Democratic predators are predators, while Republican predators are poor misguided romantics (Ben Stein)? And what about Drudge saying that it was the boys, who he refers to as "monsters" who were guilty of seducing poor romantic old Sen. Foley? I mean WTF, have these people no decency? :grr:

2. uh, no, they don't
republicans should be treated like what they really are at their core: emotionally disturbed individuals with a third-grade mentality.

14. It's amazing. It doesn't matter what the kid was doing. It only matters
what the adult *in power* was doing. How can they skirt that blatant fact?

28. Because they are so drunk on their own power ...
Edited on Tue Oct-03-06 10:49 AM by ShortnFiery
Best way to sum it up was "Tricky Dick" saying once:

"Well, when the President does it, it's legal." :wow: :puke:

They honestly believe (The Executive Branch and The Republican Congress) that they are Above the Law.

If the M$M does not at least do an *half-assed honest job* for the next few weeks OR if there's massive election fraud, they may be correct, i.e., The Republican Leadership is Above the Law. :scared:

8. Somehow, there is a disconnect with them
The Clenis, in a mutual affair with a 22 year old intern = NOT OK, BAD FOR THE MORAL FABRIC OF OUR NATION

Foley's Foley, trolling for sex with underage interns = OK, HE IS A MISUNDERSTOOD ROMANTIC, IT WAS THE LITTLE BEAST PAGES THAT SEDUCED!

26. No, I was talking about them not about us
But I understand the confusion. I guess what surprised me about this was not that there is a double standard. I mean that's hardly news. But that they are being so incredibly shrill and blatant about displaying it. Seems like usually the Freeper machine produces slightly more sophisticated shit.

Ben Stein? He has some nasty incident in his past? I did a quick google but found nothing. Can you give me a clue about this? (Pardon my ignorance)

17. We are seeing a heinous example of what the greed party will do
to stay in power. They will even sacrifice children to maintain control of the US governement - AKA the goose that lays golden eggs. They will not give up that goose easily! The super-rich are looting our Treasury and they will go to any lengths to stay in power - even cover up and allow child abuse!

When will the 39% open their eyes and see the utter corruption of the republican party?

20. Someone around here is giving Foley a pass for his predatory behavior?
Care to get specific?

I've seen some disagreement about whether or not Foley is a pedophile (is a 16-year-old a child?), but I have not seen a case of a DUer defending Foley.

And, please, don't even try to infer the Matt Drudge somehow represents even extreme thinking here at DU.

Edited on Tue Oct-03-06 10:47 AM by MindPilot
Somehow equating the consensual sex between two adults with sexually stalking an underage teen. Both were wrong and certainly constituted sexual harassment in the workplace and an abuse of power, but they are not equivalent by any stretch.

At least that's my take on it.

It's the same thing that allows Reagan fans to rant about the evils of Saddam Hussein, and even cite his laundry list of crimes, while ignoring the fact that he committed those crimes with US assistance and approval. It's what Orwell described as doublethink- "the power of holding two contradictory beliefs in one's mind simultaneously, and accepting both of them". It's the mark of party loyalists, zealots, and dullards.

People like Ben Stein are just propagandists, of course- and propagandists are just eloquent dullards.
