Are they shorting us on Flu vaccines.....again?
Edited on Tue Oct-03-06 02:56 PM by William Bloode
I made an appointment to get my son's Flu shot about 2 weeks ago. i got a call today saying the state had yet to deliver the vaccine, and would not receive it until around Oct 25.

We see it each year at Flu season. The vaccine will be in short supply in the US but in places like Canada they had plenty.

Why are they late/short supplying vaccine each year? Is it to create a sense of shortage so they can really make money on the scare. Or do you suppose it's just plain incompetence?

3. My 76 year old husband has serious heart problems
and I am the caregiver of a 2 month old with heart problems. Our doctors advised both of us to get the flu shot. We went to the Senior Center today to get our shots, but, just like last year, the vaccinations were cancelled because there was no vaccine.

But Bush did come to our state today to raise money for that crook Polumbo.

4. Heres an article on the subject from 2001
" As the flu season descends on us once again, Dr. Emily Senay reports that some of our flu vaccine supply will be a little late in coming.

This is the second year in a row that there have been difficulties in getting flu vaccine. What's the problem?

The problem is that one of the four companies that makes the vaccine stopped making it last year and the three remaining companies have been experiencing distribution problems as they expand production to accommodate the shortfall. So it's not that there is not enough vaccine for everybody, it's just that the supply will not be available to everybody at once.

Another from 2004

U.S. flu vaccine sliced in half
By Anita Manning, USA TODAY

"Nearly half the USA's expected supply of flu vaccine won't be delivered because British health authorities suspended Chiron Corp.'s (CHIR) license to make it, company officials said Tuesday.
The announcement, which caught U.S. health officials by surprise and came roughly a month before flu season starts, raises concern about whether there will be enough vaccine to protect children, older Americans and others who are at greatest risk"

5. I have not heard
of them even being offered here yet and was thinking about looking around to see where my husband and I could get ours but had forgotten all about it the last couple of weeks. Last year we had no problem and I think this is the year I also need the Pnemo vaccine so I had better get looking. Thanks for the reminder, I certainly hope you are able to find some for your son.

7. I popped over to the CDC website. The game plan was
to have 75 million doses available by 31 October but there was a range of scenarios as to what would be available when.

8. Ah, they say, they say.
Reckon i'll have to wait and see. Though 10/31 would fit in with the 10/25-28 date i was given. I just find it funny it has happened year after year.

12. Yeah i guess i agree.
How could possible death be funny.

My thought keep thinking, if they know theres gonna be suffering you'd think they would be better prepared.

Hey, whats a few lives when millions of dollars could be st stake?

11. Check with your nearest CostCo pharmacy.
You can use their website. They've scheduled vaccine clinics - lowest cost and (imho) reliable.

13. No Costco close by.
I could not even afford to pay. I rely on the free shots from the pediatrician since i am disabled and he gets Medicaid.

Thanks for the advice, i appreciate the effort.:toast:

15. Last year I got my shot
of preservative free flu vaccine at Wild Oats. This year they say they aren't doing them.

I called my county health department and they don't know if they are getting presevative free - call back in two weeks.

I have an inflammatory response to the other stuff. I may start calling pediatric ofices to see if I can find some.

16. I made the mistake of not getting mine last year
because I wasn't feeling well already and the line would have meant standing for an hour and a half, not easy with spinal arthritis.

I got the worst flu I've ever had in my life plus a bacterial superinfection.

I'll probably stand in line this year, even if it means grabbing a chair out of the coffee & pastry area to do it.

17. I was wondering about this as well
My granddaughter's pediatrician said they wouldn't have theirs until the second week in November--supposedly.
I went to the Doctor yesterday and he had a sign in his office that said they would be available next week--only to those patients that met CDC guidelines.:wtf:
However, CVS is having a flu clinic.

My guess is that they are taking them from the docs and giving them to the retailers.
More money to be made that way and people will be paying more without realizing it.

19. I was thinking that myself.
It just pains me to think someone might find the suffering of thousands, maybe millions is worth a extra couple bucks to their bottom line.

20. I couldn't even pay for one
2 years ago. There was none to be had here. Nashville/Davidson County got some but I'm not a county resident so couldn't get it. My county ran out day 1.

I suffer from multiple systemic diseases and the flu will kill me and I couldn't get a shot.

There is no excuse.

22. Same here.
I get by on disability, so obviously there is not very much money to go around. Try affording a Flu shot when you only get around a $1,000 a month and have 2 kids at home.

It's a shame, they know this is coming, and it comes every year. Yet for the past few years they are always short. It's been that way since 2000-2001.

21. the pediatrician may be waiting for the vaccine to come from a
different manufacturer. There's a different version of the flu shot for the rugrats and CVS may not even be vaccinating the under-5 crowd. btw, this isn't the first year that the vaccine is only offered to those in the "high risk" categories in October because the supply is limited. They'll probably ease up on that in a month.

23. Yes, the flu vaccine is in short supply. I have heard and seen
several TV and other reports about the vaccine shortage.

Here is the CDC's page on vaccine shortages:

http://www.cdc.gov/nip/news/shortages/default.htm

This page may bear watching for some of you tinfoilers who believe they may be in the process of a population reduction program. Allowing viruses and diseases to take hold is quiet way to do that sort of thing.\
